The following statement may be attributed to Mary Spaulding Balch, J.D., National Right to Life director of state legislation:

National Right to Life and its network of state right-to-life affiliates saw tremendous gains during the 2011 state legislative session. With the passage of the ground-breaking Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, laws that protect teen daughters from secret abortions, and legislation that allows mothers the opportunity to view their unborn children before making an abortion decision, America has become a safer place for unborn children. But, with 1.2 million abortions still occurring every year, there is still much to be done.

However, the right-to-life movement is stronger than ever and National Right to Life looks forward to working with our state right-to-life affiliates in educating and activating pro-life citizens in the coming year. As we prepare for a new legislative session, we are confident that the victories in yesterday's elections will lead to more efforts to protect unborn children and their mothers in the states.

Founded in 1968, the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the federation of 50 state right-to-life affiliates and more than 3,000 local chapters, is the nation's oldest and largest grassroots pro-life organization. Recognized as the flagship of the pro-life movement, NRLC works through legislation and education to protect innocent human life from abortion, infanticide, assisted suicide and euthanasia.
