THE DEMOCRATIC
PARTY AND ABORTION:
An Extreme Allegiance
WASHINGTON
– A pro-abortion "who's who" kicks off tonight's
primetime line-up at the 2008 Democratic
National Convention, putting the party's extreme
abortion agenda front and center. Anchored by
Michelle Obama, and featuring NARAL president
Nancy Keenan and a number of pro-abortion
members of Congress including House Speaker
Nancy Pelosi and Senator Claire McCaskill of
Missouri, the Democratic
Party continues to alienate and marginalize the
pro-life members of its party.
In addition
to an array of pro-abortion advocates and
politicians who will appear during the four-day
convention, the party's proposed platform, which
was presented to delegates today, states, in
part, that the party "strongly and unequivocally
supports Roe
v. Wade...and we oppose any and all
efforts to weaken or undermine that right."
Gone are former references of the Democratic
Party's desire to see abortion as "rare."
So
pro-abortion is the party's platform, that the
Democratic Party felt a need to go out of its
way to state that the party "also strongly
supports a woman's decision to have a child...."
More than
forty percent of Democrats oppose the vast
majority of the nearly 1.3 million abortions
performed annually in the
United States. A
poll conducted in June by the Polling Company
found that 42% of those who identified
themselves as Democrats (as well as a 54%
majority among all respondents) oppose all
abortions; oppose abortion except to save the
life of the mother; or oppose abortion except to
save the life or the mother or in cases of rape
or incest.
"Once again, the
pro-abortion leadership of the Democratic Party
demonstrates an allegiance with the extreme
pro-abortion lobby and continues to show that it
is out of step with a large number of its own
membership and out of step with the majority of
the American people,"
said National Right to Life
political director Karen Cross.
"Pro-life Americans can plainly see the
pro-abortion agenda being promoted this week in Denver."
Two weeks
ago, National Right to Life exposed the extreme
pro-abortion nature of the Democrat's
presidential nominee, Senator Barack Obama, when
it released documents from the Illinois State
Senate showing that then-state Sen. Obama voted
against the Illinois Born-Alive Infants
Protection Act – even when it was made virtually
identical to a federal measure that became law
in 2002 – and then misrepresented his opposition
in subsequent years. More information about the
Obama cover-up, including the relevant documents

The National
Right to Life Committee is the nation's largest
pro-life group with affiliates in all 50 states
and over 3,000 local chapters nationwide.
National Right to Life works through legislation
and education to protect those threatened by
abortion, infanticide, euthanasia and assisted
suicide.
