GEORGIA BILL WOULD PREVENT
ABORTION BASED ON
RACE OR SEX OF UNBORN CHILD
National Right to Life joins
affiliate in urging passage of SB 529
WASHINGTON - The following
statement from the National Right to Life
Committee (NRLC), the federation of 50 state
right-to-life groups and more than 3,000 local
chapters. It may be attributed to NRLC Director
of State Legislation Mary Spaulding Balch, J.D.
National Right to Life
Committee joins with our state affiliate,
Georgia Right to Life, in urging the Georgia
House of Representatives to pass SB 529, a bill
that would prevent abortions discriminatorily
based on the race or sex of the unborn child.
These appalling forms of
discrimination which take the life of an unborn
child simply because of his or her sex or race
have no place in America.
It is a sad fact that
sex-selection abortion, something once thought
of as confined to certain parts of Asia, has
spread to the United States.
It is also a travesty that
abortion is the leading cause of death in the
African American Community. The fact that more
African American babies have been killed by
abortion during the past 37 years of legalized
abortion than the total number of African
American deaths from all other causes combined
is unacceptable.
The most fundamental of all
civil rights is the right to life. No nation
committed to equality and human dignity can
tolerate this shocking, discriminatory disregard
for its own children.
Georgia Right to Life is the Georgia state
affiliate of the National Right to Life
Committee. The National Right to Life Committee
is the nation’s largest pro-life group with
affiliates in all 50 states and over 3,000 local
chapters nationwide.
