Black Americans for Life

BAL girlBlack Americans for Life (BAL) works with a variety of groups to provide outreach to the Black community and to help save Black babies. Our goal is to educate, identify and activate Black pro-life’s who will work within their local communities to build effective pro-life grass roots groups. BAL has several educational brochures to help educate and organize Black Americans.

“The right to life is the most fundamental of all civil rights. While the right to education, healthcare, housing, or employment are important, they pale in existence to the right to live, walk, and love among us. We must stop abortion to protect the right to life for preborn children.”

– Kay James, Founder, Black Americans for Life

BAL pieThe devastating toll that abortion has had on this country pales beside the harm it has done to the Black community. While all segments of American society have been touched by the horrors of abortion, no group has been affected more than African Americans.

The U.S. population of women of child-bearing age (15-40 years old) contains only 14% Black women. However, that 14% account for 32% of the total number of abortions performed in the U.S. Further, almost half of all Black pregnancies end in abortion. This means that almost half of the Black babies conceived in this country are not even born. Compare this to the fact that one in six white pregnancies end in abortion.

BAL barAbortion is the leading cause of death in the African American community. The fact is that more African American babies have been killed by abortion during the past 36 years of legalized abortion than the total number of African American deaths from all other causes combined.

*Note: All population data based on cumulative statistics provided by the U.S. Center for Disease Control. All abortion data from the Guttmacher Institute.

BAL boysIn an effort to help save African American babies by reducing abortions in the Black community, NRLC is joining with other groups in declaring June as Pro-Life Awareness Month in the Black Community. We are encouraging African Americans to plan educational campaigns in their church and local communities to make people aware of the “genocide” that is killing 2 out of every 3 black children. NRLC also has material prepared to help local groups plan activities and educational programs.
