Abortion and Race

Population vs. Abortions

The devastating toll that abortion has had on this country pales beside the harm it has done to the Black community. While all segments of American society have been touched by the horrors of abortion, no group has been affected more than African Americans.

The U.S. population of women of child-bearing age (15-40 years old) contains only 14% Black women. However, that 14% account for 32% of the total number of abortions performed in the U.S. Further, almost half of all Black pregnancies end in abortion. This means that almost half of the Black babies conceived in this country are not even born. Compare this to the fact that one in six white pregnancies end in abortion.

Black American deaths

Abortion is the leading cause of death in the African American community. The fact is that more African American babies have been killed by abortion during the past 36 years of legalized abortion than the total number of African American deaths from all other causes combined.

“The right to life is the most fundamental of all civil rights. While the right to education, healthcare, housing, or employment are important, they pale in existence to the right to live, walk, and love among us. We must stop abortion to protect the right to life for preborn children.”

– Kay James, Founder, Black Americans for Life
