National Right to Life Jane B. Thompson Oratory Contest

Sponsoring State Requirements

The national contest will be held July 5, 2008 in Arlington, VA.
  1. Contestants must be registered for both the NRLC Convention and the Oratory Contest.

    A. Convention Registration – There is a youth registration available at a discounted rate for the convention.  The information for this registration will be available closer to the convention dates, in the NRLC news or through the NRLC website (www.NRLC.org).  Parents or guardians accompanying the contestant should also be registered for the convention.  This information should be sent directly to the NRLC Convention.

    B. Oratory Contest Registration – Contestants must be registered with the contest director prior to the contest.  The name, address, and a copy of the contestant’s speech should be submitted to the director using the enclosed form.  Please do this as soon as possible after your state contest.  This registration should be sent directly to the contest director at the address on the form.

  2. The contest usually runs all day. Beginning mid-morning and ending around 5:00pm. So students should be prepared to be there all day. Contestants may give their speech several times during the day as the rounds progress.

  3. There will be a reception for the contestants, family members and chaperones on the Friday evening before the contest.

  4. Contestants will receive a letter and information prior to the contest. One or two weeks before the contest a letter will be sent to the contestants that includes information regarding the exact time and location in the hotel of the contest, check-in information, reception information and national contest rules.

  5. Please tell the contestant they will receive this information. This packet will help answer any questions the contestant may have.

  6. The sponsoring state group should make arrangements, airline, hotel, registration, etc. for the contestant. It is strongly suggested that the cost of the trip be included in the first place prize.

  7. The first place winner will be asked to give their speech at the convention closing banquet. The winner will receive a banquet ticket as part of the first place prize.

  8. Please take that into consideration when purchasing banquet tickets for the contestant.
