NOVEMBER 7
By Carol Tobias
There is a very small minority in this country who think abortion
should be legal anywhere, any time, for any reason, and they want
our tax dollars to pay for it. Unfortunately, one of those in the
small minority is our President, Barack Obama. He is, without
question, the most pro-abortion president we’ve ever had.
Bill Clinton, during his time in office, at least tried to convince
us that he thought abortion should be “safe, legal, and rare.”
President Obama puts forth no such pretense. Neither as a legislator
nor as president has he ever supported a single bill or amendment
that would place limits on abortion at any time in pregnancy.
Somehow, the innocent unborn child has become the enemy that must be
sacrificed at all cost.
Obama doesn’t just give lip service to abortion advocates, he fights
for them. He opposes, and threatens vetoes of, legislation that
would limit abortion in any way or for any reason. He ignores the
wishes of state and local governments, bypassing them to contract
directly with Planned Parenthood affiliates, and as he promised
Planned Parenthood during the 2008 campaign, he has made expansion
of abortion a major component of his health care reform law.
President Obama has already appointed two pro-abortion members of
the Supreme Court. If given another four years and more
appointments, he could delay the reversal of Roe v. Wade for another
generation.
In the days remaining before the election, we must do everything we
can to make sure there is a change in the White House.
Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are solid pro-life candidates who
recognize the dignity and value of each human life. They know that
each unborn child is unique and deserves a chance to live and to
laugh and to love.
With the election of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, the right to life
established in the Declaration of Independence can again be the
standard for our country and the model for other nations.
I recently heard a friend say that, even though the election is
November 6, the most important day for him will be November 7. He
wants to wake up, the day after the election, knowing that he did
absolutely everything he could to affect the outcome. He doesn’t
want to have regrets, thinking and wishing that he had done more.
How about you? Regardless of the outcome, I hope and pray that none
of us wakes up thinking we could have done more.
If you’ve been an active pro-lifer for a while, you know that some
of our opponents can be downright mean—mean and ugly. They don’t
care about the fact that an innocent baby is being killed, so why
would they care if they hurt someone’s feelings? They march, and
they shout, and they lie. And they’re in your face, bullying and
trying to win by intimidation.
And as we come closer to that day of overturning Roe v. Wade and
protecting unborn children; the battle is going to be fierce. If you
think the pro-abortion extremists are rude and militant now, you
ain’t seen nothing yet.
Pro-lifers, on the other hand, respect life, even the lives of those
we disagree with. We’re nice and polite, and sometimes timid. We
don’t want to offend others, we don’t want to cause arguments or
fights, we don’t want to upset our friends or family or neighbors.
But we have the truth. We have the facts. We need to have the
courage to stand up for those whose lives are being threatened.
This is not the time to be shy or bashful—too much is riding on this
election. Distribute flyers, hand out the presidential comparison
pieces, make phone calls, use your Facebook and Twitter accounts.
Talk to your neighbors, friends, and family members. Make sure your
fellow church members know the differences between the candidates
and encourage them to vote for pro-life candidates.
Edward Everett Hale stated, “I am only one, but I am one. I can’t do
everything, but I can do something. The something I ought to do, I
can do. And by the grace of God, I will.”
You may be one of those already doing everything you can, and for
that I thank you. If not, I plead with you to take a few minutes to
think about something else you could do to elect pro-life
candidates. November 7 is coming. Will we wake up that day knowing
that we did everything we could to win this election?
