President Barack Obama Nominates Judge Sonia Sotomayor to Replace
Obama and Democratic Leaders in Congress Hoping To Impose Sweeping Abortion Mandates In "Health Care Reform" WASHINGTON (Updated May 18, 2009) -- Congressional Democratic leaders are currently at work crafting "health care reform" legislation that they, and President Obama, hope to ram through Congress on a fast track this summer. Many details of the legislation have not yet been revealed. But this much is clear: President Obama, with the help of some of the most powerful Democrats in Congress, hopes to use "health care reform" as a vehicle to vastly expand access to abortion on demand. "The pro-abortion movement sees federal 'health care reform' legislation as a golden opportunity to force-feed abortion into every nook and cranny of the health-care delivery system," explained NRLC Federal Legislative Director Douglas Johnson. "Their goal, as they sometimes put it, is to 'mainstream' abortion. They hope to use the structure of a federal health-care law to make abortion on demand accessible in every region of every state, paid for by taxes and by government-mandated private insurance premiums." Nebraska Passes One of Nation’s Strongest Ultrasound Laws BY Dave Andrusko On May 29, Nebraska’s unicameral legislature overwhelmingly passed LB 675—informally dubbed by its supporters the Mother’s Right to See Her Unborn Child Ultrasound bill—on a vote of 40–5. Gov. Dave Heineman immediately signed the act into law. “The bill takes us one step closer to ensuring that a mother has the opportunity to see her unborn child’s humanity before making a life and death decision,” said Mary Spaulding Balch, NRLC director of state legislation. “This is a classic example of ‘informed consent,’ which is why the abortion lobby always opposes such laws.” Contrary to the impression often left by opponents, almost all abortionists already use ultrasounds. Under LB 675, there is a subtle but important difference. Typically, at an abortion clinic viewing the ultrasound is an “option” that few women know they have. Ordinarily, the screen is turned away from the woman and for her to see the image she has to check off a box at the end of a form that she might not even have noticed. Under the Nebraska law abortionists who use ultrasound would be required to position the screen in a way that the mother can easily see it and inform her that she can see the image of her unborn child, if she so chooses.

Action OVERTURNING ROE v. WADE IS DIFFICULT With Roe v. Wade the Supreme Court did more than merely legalize abortion: it “constitutionalized” it, making the new “right” immune to simple legislative correction. This de facto amendment to the Constitution from the judicial bench created the severe difficulties pro-lifers have faced since 1973. Overturning Roe v. Wade is possible in only two ways—both very difficult: (1) Congress and the states initiate and complete the process of amending the Constitution or (2) the Supreme Court reverses its Roe v. Wade decision. NRL News Archive2009 2008 2007 2006
