National
Teens for Life Summit to Train Pro-Life Youth in January
How can you
save lives, raise up future leaders, and, as an added bonus, scare
our opposition silly? The perfect opportunity to accomplish all of the above is coming up in just a few short months in the form of the third annual National Teens for Life (NTL) Youth Leadership Summit. The summit, held in the Washington, D.C., area the weekend prior to the March for Life (January 18–20, 2008), will train junior high through college-aged pro-lifers in a number of areas. A partial menu of topics includes the basics of abortion and euthanasia, how to start and run local groups, lobbying, advocating for the medically vulnerable, the dangers of embryonic stem cell research (and the wonderfulness of the many ethically acceptable alternatives), how to work with the media, and much, much more. Speakers at the event will include Bobby Schindler, brother of the late Terri Schindler Schiavo; Burke Balch, director of NRLC’s Robert Powell Center for Medical Ethics; Olivia Gans, director of American Victims of Abortion; Brother Paul O’Donnell of the Franciscan Brothers of Peace; Mary Spaulding Balch, attorney and NRLC’s director of state legislation; and many other high-caliber pro-life leaders. All will share their vast knowledge and years of experience with the young people in attendance. Past participants in the summit have enjoyed the opportunity to learn about protecting life from experts who combine a passion for life with humor and a real understanding that our young people are not only tomorrow’s leaders, but also have a unique and vital role to play in the pro-life movement of today. Summit training will not be limited to current events. For the third year in a row, summit youth will visit the Holocaust Memorial Museum to supplement their learning. In the words of poet and philosopher George Santayana, “Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” Pro-life youth must understand that in protecting the lives of the weakest and most vulnerable among us, we are protecting our society as a whole. Aside from an unprecedented opportunity to learn from the best and brightest the Movement has to offer, teens and college students will also participate in pro-life games, have networking opportunities, and make new friends—many of whom will last for a lifetime as they fight together for the cause of life. In short, the NTL Summit is a fantastic opportunity for any pro-life young person who wishes to learn more about life and to make a difference in the world. Summit cost is $150 for registrations that are received prior to January 4, 2008, and $175 for registrations received after January 4. This includes Friday and Saturday nights in the hotel, a light snack on Friday evening, all meals Saturday, breakfast and lunch Sunday, the Holocaust Museum field trip, and all summit materials. For those who wish to attend Saturday only, the cost is $35 and includes the program from noon until 8:00 p.m. and pizza for supper. (The Saturday Prime Time option is a GREAT idea for busloads coming into town for the March, church youth groups, CCD classes, and more!)
