Pro-Life Spring (and Summer) Training for Youth
By Joleigh Little

Spring and summer are a great time of year for training pro-life young people! School is winding down, summer stretches before them, and teens are eager to find opportunities to combine fun with a chance to be a part of the cause of a lifetime.

In fact, it is a safe bet that you know at least one teen who would benefit from attending a pro-life convention, camp, or academy. Locating them might just be as easy as passing this information along to the teenagers in your world ... or to the person in your church who works with teens.

There are a number of educational opportunities targeted specifically for pro-life young people, junior high through college age. You just have to know where to look.

What follows is the “what’s what” in pro-life training, along with contact information for each event, should you find yourself wanting more information. Every one of these events will educate, motivate, and inspire pro-life youth to become more involved in the fight for life.

Camp Joshua—March 25–27, 2007—Salem, Oregon

Oregon Right to Life hosts an annual youth leadership camp. From educational sessions on the life issues to fun and informative field trips, Camp Joshua offers a well-rounded pro-life leadership experience. In between the solid education and the leadership training, there’s plenty of time for fun, as well!

Past camp highlights include a pro-life version of The Apprentice and visits with pro-life legislators in the state capitol. For more information on Camp Joshua, go to www.ortl.org and take a virtual camp tour, or e-mail Kate at ortlef@ortl.org.

National Teens for Life Convention—June 14–16, 2007—Kansas City, Missouri

Held in conjunction with the National Right to Life Convention, the NTL Convention offers a full slate of workshops, general sessions, and activities designed especially for teenagers, with a pro-life Pizza Banquet and dance to cap off the weekend. Sessions range from basic to advanced, so there is something for everyone.

Join teens from around the nation to learn how to make a difference for life, and in the process make friends who will last a lifetime! For more information, or to register for the NTL Convention, go to www.nrlc.org or e-mail jlittle@wrtl.org.

Camps Esther and Nehemiah—June 24–29, 2007—Cable, Wisconsin, and July 22–27, 2007—Walworth, Wisconsin

Wisconsin Right to Life hosts four youth leadership camps over the course of the summer. Camp Esther, the basic camp and pre-requisite for Camp Nehemiah, teaches teens all the basics of the life issues. Camp Nehemiah picks up where Esther leaves off, offering more advanced courses on everything from international abortion laws and eugenics to assisted suicide and lobbying techniques.

In addition to education, both camps offer recreation, pro-life games, and a chance to interact with incredible speakers and other pro-life young people. More information on WRTL’s summer camps is available at www.wisconsinteens4life.org or by e-mail to jlittle@wrtl.org.

National Right to Life Academy—July 2–August 10, 2007—Washington, D.C.

This premier program offers six weeks of intensive pro-life education for college students. Set in our nation’s capital, the academy will instruct students in everything from biological fundamentals and abortion arguments to assisted suicide and involuntary euthanasia. The NRL Academy will offer college-level courses and practicums which run the entire length of the program, as well as special guest speakers and topics.

Some of the biggest names in the Movement will address this elite group of collegians as they learn to carry their pro-life convictions back to their campuses and into their future careers. To download an acad-emy registration packet, go to www.nrlc.org and for more information, contact joleigh@centurytel.net.

Special events for youth are in place and ready to train the future of the pro-life movement ... we just need YOU to help us find those young people who are eager to make a difference. Regardless of which event they choose to attend, teens and college students will be glad they invested their time and talents in the pro-life cause. Their efforts on behalf of the unborn and vulnerable will save lives for decades and generations to come ... and they will have more than a little fun as they learn to be advocates for the cause of life!
