NRLC 2006 to be Held in Nashville, Tennessee
EMILY's List--Don't Be Fooled EMILY's List. Sounds kind of nice, like, let's have a cup of tea. Don't be fooled. EMILY's List is a political action committee which raises massive amounts of money for female Democratic candidates who support abortion on demand, including partial-birth abortion, and who want abortion subsidized with your tax dollars. EMILY's List is currently the best-funded PAC in the country. It has already raised nearly $20 million and spent $17.5 million, as of May 2006. Its candidates can also expect to receive upwards of hundreds of thousands of dollars from other groups as a result of an endorsement by EMILY's List. On May 11, 2006, EMILY's List hosted a luncheon featuring its endorsed candidates for the United States House and Senate. This year, EMILY's List boasts more candidates than it has had in decades. At least a dozen will likely be involved in head-to-head races with our pro-life candidates in the November 7 general elections. While the mission of EMILY's List is to elect pro-abortion Democratic women to Congress, it was clear during this recent luncheon that it is intentionally steering away from the subject of abortion. If what it said last month holds true, it will attack pro-life candidates less on the issue of abortion than on foreign policy or domestic policy issues--or any other issue. It doesn't matter--as long as it is not the issue of abortion, which is a loser for EMILY's List.
The Party of Death: For those who don't follow the daily oscillations of the abortion debate, Ramesh Ponnuru may not be a familiar name. Those of us who do know him as the extaordinarily thoughtful pro-life senior editor of National Review. Wise to the way of abortion politics, it came as no surprise to his admirers that barely had the ink dried on The Party of Death than his book came under an ugly online attack for various and sundry alleged defects. For those who'd actually bothered to read the book (as oppose to cribbing talking points from pro-abortionist web sites), the irony was hard to miss. One of the book's primary strengths is its meticulous explication of how for over 33 years the public has responded not to the real Roe v. Wade decision, but to a fabrication stitched together by the Courts, much of the media and academia, and the upper echelons of the Democratic Party. Likewise, the attack on his book was less (if at all) the response of a careful reading of his thesis than it was a push-the-panic-button preemptive strike launched to bury Ponnuru's unassailable conclusion that the Democratic Party has become "the chief political vehicle for the idea that inviolability of human life is outdated."
