Combined Federal Campaign Is Underway!

By Marie Hagan

Want to know an easy but highly effective way to help the National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund assist pro-lifers around the nation? Many of you may already have the opportunity but may not know it.

I'm referring to the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), a workplace campaign fund created by the Office of Personnel Management for government employees. Last year your generosity generated over $185,000 for the Educational Trust Fund.

A percentage of those funds were distributed to NRL's state affiliate groups, who utilized the proceeds to educate their communities on right to life issues. Our goal is to substantially increase our educational efforts, which you can help make happen by contributing to this fall's CFC already underway. Your contributions will be put to lifesaving use and will be enormously appreciated.

(A number of state governments also have programs through which their employees can contribute.)

There are approximately 300 areas throughout the country where the activity for the CFC is conducted, largely on military bases and at post offices. The kickoff date generally is September 1, with the campaign extending through October, although some start and end up to one month later.

During that time a CFC chairman will distribute CFC brochures to federal employees listing hundreds of charities and make pledge cards available. National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund will be found on those brochures alphabetically under the workplace federation called Human Service Charities of America (HSCA), which this fall will be listed in the front of the CFC brochure!

Over the 24 years the Trust Fund has participated, NRL affiliate groups have used their imagination to find many ways to use their share of the proceeds to educate the public.  NRL chapters utilize workplace funds to provide educational materials in schools, county fairs, and to the general pubic; purchase fetal models for displays; buy educational radio, television, and newspaper advertisements; make possible speaking engagements; fund in-house libraries of books and DVDs; and assist in educational outreach programs, such as to high school and college students.

If you or someone you know works for the federal government, select National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund in your CFC listing and your donations will be put to excellent use! Look for NRL Educational Trust Fund (agency #2844) under the federation HSCA in your CFC brochure.

NRL Educational Trust Fund can also be "written-in" if your private sector offers a workplace giving program.

If you work for the state government, NRL also participates in the following state employee campaigns: Arizona, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, Utah, Virginia, Vermont, and Washington.

All of these campaigns are currently underway. Many will finish by the end of October. Be sure to look under Human Service Charities of America agency #2844, where you can contribute to the National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund.
