A Culture of Life Has So Much More to Offer
Remarks of Congressman Mike Ferguson (R-NJ) to the
32nd annual March for Life
As we meet here for the 32nd time on our National Mall in the shadow of the United States Capitol and the Supreme Court, we can look back at another year in which we've made tremendous progress in the pro-life movement. Our greatest victory this past year was to re-elect and re-inaugurate our great pro-life president, George W. Bush.
We've had other victories in recent years as well. From the Unborn Victims of Violence Act - - Laci and Conner's Law - - to making progress on the ban on human cloning and of course the Partial Birth Abortion Ban. But all of these legislative victories are threatened by activist judges and courts that are undermining the will of the American majority who value human life.
That's why we must continue to support the president and his judicial nominees. And we must tell the United States Senate that their days of obstruction must end. We must continue our efforts because even though the tide is turning in our direction, there's still a powerful undertow working against us. Just this past week, in my home state of New Jersey, the Asbury Park Press newspaper reported that a receptionist in a doctor's office was arrested for performing abortions. And that the doctor himself was arrested for flushing aborted babies down his toilet.
A culture of life has so much more to offer. We offer a supportive embrace to women in difficult pregnancies. We offer nurturing and warmth for children who are considered by some unwanted. We offer a brighter future and hope to those who feel that they have nowhere else to go. And we offer prayers - - prayers to those who work on behalf of life every single day and prayers to those who have not yet embraced this culture of life.
We have great challenges on the horizon and I am optimistic about our prospects. Together we will continue our successes and protect human life. I look forward to standing shoulder to shoulder with you in this great effort. Thank you and may God bless you.
