ACTION ALERT
Urge Congress to Act Quickly on Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act
and Federal Parental Notification Legislation

* First, read the story on page one regarding recent developments in Congress regarding the Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act and federal parental notification legislation.

* If you have access to the Internet, visit the Legislative Action Center at the National Right to Life website, at http://www.capwiz.com/nrlc/home/. This resource will help you easily send appropriate e-mail messages to your two U.S. senators and to your representative in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Once you are at the Legislative Action Center, click on "Issues and Legislation." This will allow you to see whether the lawmakers who represent you in Congress have cosponsored these pro-life bills.

For example, to see whether your senators have cosponsored the Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act (S. 51) and the Child Custody Protection Act (S. 8), follow these steps: Click on "Elected Officials," and find the senator you are interested in. Then select "Click here" under "Cosponsorship Status," to see if he or she has cosponsored these two bills. If a senator has not yet cosponsored, click the "Ask for Support" button, which will allow you to easily send appropriate e-mail messages to urge cosponsorship. If the senator has already cosponsored, click the "Say Thanks" button to send an appropriate message.

Do the same for H.R. 356, the House version of the Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act.

Other pro-life bills will be added to the list as they are introduced. The Legislative Action Center will also provide guidance on how to send appropriate messages opposing anti-life bills.

* You can also send a letter by U.S. mail or by fax to a federal lawmaker. For most congressional offices, a fax number is listed along with the mailing address on the website page for that lawmaker. The mailing address for senators is Senator _____, U.S. Senate, Washington, D.C. 20510. The mailing address for House members is The Honorable ______, U.S. House of Representatives, Washington, D.C. 20515.

* You can also contact your representative in the U.S. House of Representatives by calling the Capitol Switchboard, 202-225-3121. If you are not sure of your congressman's name, just give the operator your zip code, and the operator will tell you who represents you and put you through to the correct office. Ask that the representative support H.R. 356, the Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act.

* In the same way, by calling 202-224-3121 you can be connected to the offices of your two U.S. senators. Ask them to support S. 8, the Child Custody Protection Act, and S. 51, the Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act.

* Please help NRLC's lobbying efforts by forwarding a copy of any response you receive from a congressional office to the NRLC Federal Legislation Department, by e-mail to Legfederal@aol.com, or by fax to 202-347-3668, or by U.S. mail to NRLC, Federal Legislation, 512-10th Street, Northwest, Washington, D.C. 20004.
