1. Don't take for granted that your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and other acquaintances are informed about where the candidates stand on this issue. Most Americans get their information about a particular candidate from television. Do we really want the biased pro-Kerry media outlets to have the only word on framing the candidates' positions on abortion? Certainly we can't reach the millions of American viewers each night as they do, but we can redouble our efforts and reach as many voters as possible with the truth. Talk to every single person you know. Make sure they are going to vote and make sure they are informed on this issue! Take the time to really discuss the realities of partial-birth abortion and the future of any respect for human life in our country.
2. Don't be misled by thinking your one vote (or the votes of all of your acquaintances) doesn't really matter! Many, many elections are won or lost by a relatively small number of votes. In 1960 John F. Kennedy defeated Richard Nixon by a handful of votes. JFK won because he received 1 MORE VOTE per precinct in Illinois (8,858 votes); 3 MORE VOTES per precinct in Missouri (9,880 votes); and 3 MORE VOTES per precinct in New Jersey (22,091 votes). Without those 40,829 votes, the election would have gone to Nixon. And in 2000 two states were decided by less than 1,000 votes - - Florida and New Mexico - - while two others were decided by less than 5,000 votes - - Iowa and Oregon. It has never been more true that every single pro-life vote in this country matters greatly to this election and to unborn children.
3. Don't be intimidated or silenced by accusations that it is somehow wrong to vote "single issue." If a man has NO respect or places NO value on a tiny, voiceless little baby's life, a baby that most Americans realize is a living, human being, can he really be trusted to protect any life, let alone run our country?
4. Participate with the PAC of your local NRLC state affiliate in distributing literature, making phone calls, manning phone banks, driving voters to the polls, reminding people to vote, or in whatever area your help is needed. Get in touch with the PAC of your NRLC state affiliate and find out where your help is needed most.
5. Contact NRL PAC and we will provide you with free literature to distribute or we can put you in touch with the PAC of your state affiliate (202-626-8800, ext. 138). You can contact pro-life candidates for state office in your area (or your local state party headquarters) and offer to make calls, knock on doors, man a phone bank, or volunteer for poll-watching or distributing literature outside of polling areas. There are countless jobs just waiting to be done.
6. Don't be caught off guard and don't miss any opportunity to discuss the horrors of partial-birth abortion and the candidates' stands on this issue.
