Combined Federal Campaign Approaches
By Marie Hagan
Opportunity is just around the corner, a chance to help expand vitally important pro-life educational programs through contributions to the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC).
In a matter of a few short weeks, federal employees will get their annual chance to help the unborn, those with disabilities, and the elderly. You can locate the NRL Educational Trust Fund in the CFC brochures under the federation HSCA (Human Service Charities of America). Our agency number is #2844.
In addition to the CFC, the NRL Educational Trust Fund also participates in a number of state employee and private-sector campaigns. It is well worth taking a moment to see if your workplace conducts a charitable giving campaign. (See sidebar this page for more details.)
Thanks to the generosity of federal employees, the National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund generates over $150,000 a year. The Trust Fund shares those proceeds with their state affiliate groups who use the funds to educate their communities.
Created by the Office of Personnel Management in the early 1980s, the CFC provides federal employees around the country and overseas the opportunity to help the charity of their liking during a two-month-long workplace campaign. During this activity time, CFC chairpersons distribute brochures (a great number of which are on military bases and in post offices around the country), which list hundreds of charities from which employees can select. Most campaigns begin around September.
Due to CFC donors, the National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund and its state and local affiliate groups are able to enhance their educational efforts. Oregon Right to Life Director Gayle Atteberry, for example, writes, "CFC funds are distributed to our chapters for their use in doing educational projects in cities throughout Oregon. Many of our county fairs are made possible because of CFC funds."
South Carolina Citizens for Life's Executive Director Holly Gatling shares that "CFC funds help pay for high-quality educational materials that show pregnant women a better life than abortion and that teach medically vulnerable people to protect themselves from the growing threat of euthanasia."
STATE EMPLOYEE AND PRIVATE-SECTOR OPPORTUNITIES
In addition to the CFC, the NRL Educational Trust Fund also participates in the following state employee campaigns (which works much like the CFC but on the state level): Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, Utah, Virginia, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin.
State employees will find the NRL Educational Trust Fund under "Share America."
Private-sector and United Way employees can always "write in" the National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund. NRL, for instance, received multiple donations from employees from a handful of major corporate campaigns, such as IBM, Sears, Nike, Microsoft, and USA Today.
Thank you to all of those donors whose generosity helps the unborn and other vulnerable persons.
