"Trolling for Unwary Moderates"

I watched the Democratic National Convention and its official coronation of Senators John Kerry and John Edwards the same week my oldest daughter and I took in The Bourne Supremacy, a terrific action flick whose plot line detours sharply but enjoyably from author Robert Ludlum's novel. Fortuitous timing on my part.

Like the Jason Bourne character of the 1987 novel, the participants seemed to be battling amnesia. Where were the watchwords, the hosannas to the pro-abortion orthodoxy?

To loyal pro-abortion Democrats not in the know, it must have seemed as if somebody had stolen the party's identity as the political _expression of the abortion-on-demand crowd, just as someone assumes Bourne's identity in the book. But, unlike Bourne, there is nothing for the abortion now and forever crowd to worry about. The party had not gone A.W.O.L.

Kerry and Edwards and the rest of the prime-time speakers in Boston have not forgotten where their true allegiances lie. Not for one second. But having learned their lesson from previous defeats, they crafted a script they hoped would fool the American people.

If you question this, just remember that the Abortion Establishment did not utter a peep of protest when abortion was barely mentioned in prime time. Their silence speaks volumes.

What do NARAL and Planned Parenthood and their friends know about abortion and Kerry/Edwards? That for the most pro-abortion team ever nominated by a major political party to show its true colors would be a huge mistake.

When you have to defend everything up to and including partial-birth abortion, mum's the word. In presenting their public face, much better to keep their 110% pro-abortion records private.

(While speakers were careful to avoid talking about abortion during the times the networks were covering the convention, the party was clear in its platform that not only is it not retreating, there are additional ways pro-abortionists wish to desecrate the bodies of the unborn. For a look at the platform, see stories on pages 1 & 30.)

Reducing their passionate advocacy of abortion on demand to little more than a footnote at the convention is in keeping with Senator Kerry's overall battle plan - - ignore his 20 years in the Senate and pretend to be something that he is not. They are, to borrow from columnist John Leo, "trolling for unwary moderates."

The American public must not be taken in by what amounts to verbal cosmetic surgery. Underneath the nips and tucks, the face of the Kerry/Edwards team remains etched in passionate abortion advocacy.

We have a number of resources to help you tell the truth. NRL Political Director Carol Tobias on page 1 and NRLC President Wanda Franz, Ph.D., on page three, do a wonderful job of reminding us just how much in the tank Kerry/Edwards are for abortion proponents and how faithful Bush/Cheney have been to the cause of life.

On page 22, you'll find a succinct, one-page summary of the startling contrast between Bush/Cheney and Kerry/Edwards on abortion and instructions how to order many copies of this excellent educational tool. This will help pro-lifers break down the firewall of silence erected by Kerry/ Edwards.

You, in turn, must loudly share the truth with as many of their friends, family, and colleagues as you can.

Editor's note. Be sure to read "Today's News & Views"which appears Monday through Friday on NRLC's web site: www.nrlc.org. This will keep you up-to-date on breaking developments.
