Eleventh Annual Proudly Pro-Life Awards Dinner Comes to Nation's Capital By Dave Andrusko It would be difficult to imagine a better way to inaugurate the move of the annual Proudly Pro-Life Awards Dinner to Washington, D.C., than to honor entertainer and pro-life stalwart Pat Boone and to hear a laudatory speech from pro-life Vice President Richard Cheney. To make it easier for members of Congress to attend, the 11th annual dinner, sponsored by the NRL Educational Trust Fund, was moved from the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City to the Willard Inter-Continental Hotel in the nation's capital. The evening could not have been any better. One small anecdote may illustrate how enjoyable was the April 20 gathering. Needless to say, with the Vice President of the United States in attendance, there was plenty of security on hand. But a veteran reporter called NRLC's communications department the next day to offer congratulations. The reporter had been at many such gatherings where high-ranking officials were in attendance and said that none had gone as smoothly.
PAGE 1 Kerry Wows Abortion Establishment By Dave Andrusko From the perspective of Planned Parenthood, Naral Pro-Choice America, and the Feminist Majority, it was fitting and proper that U2's "It's a Beautiful Day" should be reverberating in the background. Two days later, on April 25, the pro-abortion "March for Women's Lives" would draw a sizeable crowd to Washington, D.C., including a huge contingent of sympathetic reporters. But today, presumptive Democratic Party presidential nominee Senator John Kerry was there in the flesh to remind the leaders of the Abortion Establishment that the junior senator from Massachusetts was their candidate. Kerry's appearance at the April 23 gathering organized by his campaign was a true love fest. A quick peck on the cheek of retiring NARAL President Kate Michelman symbolized what amounted to an exchange of political vows.

PRO-LIFE SUCCESSES AND THE NEED FOR REALISM During the last two years the following three important bills were passed by Congress and signed by President George W. Bush. The first of these bills signed into law by President Bush was the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act. Its purpose is not only to protect a child surviving an abortion attempt but any child after birth who is in danger of becoming the victim of what might be called a "retroactive abortion." The second bill, the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act, had been passed several times by Congress before and was twice vetoed by President Clinton. President Bush has corrected these inexcusable actions of his predecessor. The Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act has been challenged in three different federal courts: in Lincoln, Nebraska, in New York, and in San Francisco. Some of the testimony in these cases has been quite revealing. In the San Francisco trial, the government lawyer asked Dr. Maureen Paul, chief medical officer of Planned Parenthood Golden Gate, whether the unborn child experiences pain during the abortion procedures. Dr. Paul replied, "I have no idea what you mean." No idea!
