Editor's note. The following is excerpted from MCCL President Leo LaLonde's column in the March issue of MCCLNews.
These budding citizen lobbyists took full advantage of their meetings with lawmakers. They asked for commitments to support MCCL's Taxpayer Protection Act and Parental Notification Data bill, respectfully challenging those legislators who would not give them an unqualified "yes." Students discovered the reality that not every senator and representative who claims to be pro-life will vote in support of pro-life legislation.
That is why citizen lobbying by MCCL's vast grassroots network is so critical to the entire process of passing protective legislation. When you respond to MCCL's phone messages by calling your legislators, you not only influence lawmakers, but you also set an example for the next generation of pro-life leaders represented by the hundreds who came to Student Day.
Future leaders trained
I am proud of these young people who are willing to make the effort to come to the Capitol and lobby on behalf of innocent, vulnerable persons. I have great hope for the future of the pro-life movement, whose leaders are being trained and raised up by all of us who care about protecting this generation and those to come.
