From the President

KERRYING WATER
FOR THE PRO-ABORTIONISTS

John Kerry was raised in the Catholic faith and continues to be an active member of the Catholic church [sic].

Advisers to one Democratic candidate circulated a newspaper article in Missouri that said Kerry personally opposed abortion [emphasis added] "as an article of faith" because he is required to do so as a Catholic. Kerry added that a lawmaker should not "legislate his personal beliefs," according to a transcript of the interview with Missouri reporters, but that was not included in the published story.

--Patrick Healy, Boston Globe, 1/30/2004

John Kerry believes [emphasis added] that women have the right to control their own bodies, their own lives, and their destiny. He believes [emphasis added] that the Constitution protects their right to choose and make their own decisions in consultation with their doctor, their conscience, and their God. He will defend this right as President. He recently announced he will support only pro-choice judges to the Supreme Court.

What is at stake is not just the right to choose. And never in my years in the Senate have the rights of women been at such risk, never have women been assaulted in their citizenship here at home and in their womanhood around the globe as they have been by this administration.

NARAL is without question the front line defense, and when judgments are made, the judgment is inescapable that Kate Michelman is one of the most effective and important civil rights leaders in our time.

As I said 18 years ago in the first speech I ever gave on the floor of the U.S. Senate, my so-called maiden speech, the right to choose is a fundamental right.

So we have to make it clear that we are not going to turn back the clock. There is no overturning Roe v. Wade; there is no packing the courts with judges who will be hostile to choice [translation: no judges who respect the Constitution and don't legislate from the bench]; there is no denial of choice for poor women in the United States of America [translation: abortions paid with your tax dollars]; there is no outlawing of a procedure necessary to save a woman's life or health [code words for the partial-birth abortion procedure]; and there are no more cutbacks on population control efforts around the world [translation: promoting abortion as "population control"].

We need to take on this President and the forces of intolerance on this issue [translation: you, the right-to-life movement]; we need to honestly and confidently and candidly take this issue out to the country and we need to speak up and be proud what we stand for.

[W]e will never go back, we will never let this right be taken away!

On Monday, presidential candidate John Kerry said he has been the most consistent supporter of abortion as compared with others seeking the Democratic nomination.

Kerry said the other Democrats seeking the party's nomination have "played games" on the issue of abortion. "I'm the only candidate running for president who hasn't played games, fudged around," Kerry said of his pro-abortion position.

NARAL gives John Kerry 100% voting record since 1995.

For all practical purposes, the Democratic nominee for the presidency has been chosen--none other than 100%-pro-abortion John Kerry. And he will "honestly and confidently and candidly take [the abortion] issue out to the country" and "be proud what he stands for." He hasn't "played games" or "fudged around" on the abortion issue. Yes, sir. Or maybe--No, sir. Or--Whatever.

John Kerry seems to be unclear about who he is and incapable of clear thought and straight talk. Let's see:

He is "an active member of the Catholic Church" and is personally opposed to abortion "as an article of faith." But he "believes" that "women have the right to control their own bodies"--that is have an abortion. And he "believes" that "the Constitution protects their right to choose." And which of these contradictory beliefs will he "defend as President"? The belief in the "right to choose" to have an unborn baby killed! And will he defend the integrity of the Constitution, as it would be his duty as president? No. He "will support only pro-choice judges to the Supreme Court." The kind who invent new constitutional rights as it suits them. He never uses the word "abortion." He speaks of "choice," but he never honestly states that he means the choice to kill an unborn child.

Given at least half a century of pro-abortion agitation and propaganda, Kerry's bombast that he would "honestly and candidly take [the abortion] issue out to the country" is ludicrous. The occasions when pro-abortionists spoke the truth were so rare that they made headlines. Instead of honesty, there will be relentless lies, disinformation, and obfuscation from the pro-abortion supporters of the Kerry candidacy--as usual, except with a multi-million-dollar price tag.

To an informed person of sound principles and moral convictions, Kerry's unprincipled zigzagging on abortion is repugnant. To dyed-in-the-wool pro-abortionists it's just part of good strategy. They also know that when a big lie is repeated over and over it begins to sound plausible to the poorly informed. (Keep this column with the above quotes so that you can run your own truth campaign by writing letters to your hometown paper.)

You, my pro-life friends, have been put on notice: John Kerry and his pro-abortion allies will "take on" not only pro-life President George W. Bush but also you, because you represent "the forces of intolerance on [the abortion] issue." Are you ready for the fight?
