The Power of Pro-Life Perspective
National Right to Life is like an information machine, producing vast quantities of well-documented, thoughtful stories, articles, and backgrounders to equip grassroots volunteers to do their jobs better and to assist outsiders to understand the Movement.
The best-known outlets are National Right to Life News and the NRLC web page, www.nrlc.org. But there is another key resource that plays a very helpful role in communicating the pro-life message to right to life activists around the nation.
It's called Pro-Life Perspective (PLP) and can be heard on hundreds of radio stations. PLP is part and parcel of the mission of NRLC's Media Relations Department, which is to keep the grassroots pro-life movement and the larger public aware of all that National Right to Life is doing to protect unborn babies and the medically dependent.
Hosted by NRLC President Wanda Franz, Ph.D., and co-hosted by Olivia Gans, director of American Victims of Abortion, PLP first hit the airwaves in January 1985. Eighteen years later, more than 4,800 editions of PLP have been aired.
PLP is heard across the nation, primarily, but not exclusively, on Christian radio. Its format - - a daily five-minute program - - is geared to the busy pro-lifer's schedule.
NRLC President Wanda Franz, Ph.D., said, "I love doing Pro-Life Perspective because it allows us to address the personal issues and events which really demonstrate our pro-life commitment through the lives of real people." Dr. Franz told NRL News, "I know that I'm speaking to an audience with pro-life convictions who share our concerns. Our audience needs to have the valuable information which only National Right to Life can provide to be more effectively pro-life."
Pro-Life Perspective topics run the gamut. In addressing abortion, euthanasia, assisted suicide, cloning, international events, and the latest on Capital Hill, PLP often deals with important news stories either not covered elsewhere or in which the media have ignored the pro-life perspective. Occasionally, Dr. Franz shares personal accounts from people just like you who are on the front lines of the abortion battle in communities around the country.
Whatever the topic, PLP furthers a principal objective of National Right to Life: to educate the public and make people aware of the truths surrounding abortion, infanticide, assisted suicide, and euthanasia. If Pro-Life Perspective is not heard in your community, here is how you can get this valuable pro-life resource on the air:
Identify Religious or "Talk" Radio Stations in Your Area
Most people live in areas reached by at least one religious station and one "talk" radio station. If you are unsure about stations in your city, consult your phone book, church, or contact Media Relations for further assistance at (202) 626-8833.
Contact the Station
As to speak with the person in charge of Public Service Announcements (PSAs). Tell the station why it should be running Pro-Life Perspective. For example,
* Pro-Life Perspective originates from Washington, D.C., providing regular updates on pending legislation by top pro-life legislative experts.
* Pro-Life Perspective provides practical information on ways to help women facing crisis pregnancies as well as the latest on infanticide, euthanasia, and assisted suicide.
* Pro-Life Perspective is only five minutes long and is self-sustaining.
Give the station any additional information it needs. To help you help the station, Pro-Life Perspective brochures and demos are available from Media Relations.
Discuss Payment for the Program
The majority of stations air Pro-Life Perspective as a free public service. If the station in your area cannot, seek a reduced rate and find a sponsor. This tells the often over-burdened station staff that your local chapter will provide the show with a built-in audience.
Please do not hesitate to call Media Relations to ask for assistance. The number again is (202) 626-8833.
