FALL WORKPLACE CAMPAIGNS OFFER EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
By Marie Hagan
Summer is winding down, and after enjoying this pause refreshed pro-lifers will be looking for opportunities to educate their communities. One venue that has proven to be especially helpful over the past two decades is the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC).
Beginning next month, hundreds of thousands of federal employees around the country will participate in this workplace campaign fund that was created over twenty years ago by the Office of Personnel Management. It is an unparalleled opportunity to easily and conveniently help the pro-life movement.
CFC "Kick-off" events get underway around the first of September and wind-up after two months. During this period, federal employees receive a brochure that lists hundreds of charities from which to select and make a pledge.
The National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund (agency #2844) is listed in the CFC brochure under the federation HSCA (Human Service Charities of America).
The money generated through the CFC by the NRL Educational Trust Fund is used solely for educational purposes. NRL shares proceeds with its state affiliate groups. NRL's affiliate groups utilize the funds to purchase pro-life brochures, videos, and to underwrite speaking and advertisement opportunities that educate their communities.
Barbara Lyons, executive director of Wisconsin Right to Life, Inc., reports that "with the help of the proceeds generated by workplace giving campaigns, we are reaching the public's mind with educational materials that save innocent human lives and at the same time build a consensus for life in Wisconsin."
Executive Director of Kentucky RTL, Margie Montgomery, also expressed appreciation for the educational work made possible by her state's share of workplace funds. She reports that RTL Educational Foundation of Kentucky, Inc., "benefits from the CFC by using the funds to purchase new and current educational materials including books, videos, and brochures for our Resource Center. The funds also enable us to assist our chapters throughout the state with funding for billboards, newspaper and radio ads, radio programs, and providing materials for county fairs and other [educational] public gatherings."
So if you or someone you know is a federal employee, your pledge is most beneficial to pro-life education. Pass the word!
The CFC is the largest, but by no means the only, workplace campaign venue in which the NRL Educational Trust Fund participates. The Trust Fund is also included in the following state employee campaigns: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Florida, Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin. To locate the NRL Educational Trust Fund in state campaign brochures, look under the parent federation of HSCA which is called 'Neighbor to Nation.'
Nor is the government the only "check off" option. Private sector campaigns have also been emerging over the past several years.
Simply check at your workplace to see if you have such a campaign. If you do, just write in National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund.
Thank you in advance for your support of pro-life educational programs through workplace campaign giving!
