State & Private Sector Too!
ATTENTION ALL FEDERAL EMPLOYEES: A "PAIN-FREE" OPPORTUNITY TO HELP EDUCATE A NATION
By Marie Hagan
Opportunity is just around the corner, a chance to help expand vitally important pro-life educational programs through contributions to the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC).
As the National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund has done each year since 1982, it will participate again this fall in the CFC, a workplace campaign created by the Office of Personnel Management for federal employees.
In addition to the CFC, the NRL Educational Trust Fund also participates in a number of state employee and private-sector campaigns. Thus, even if you are not a federal employee, it is worth taking a moment to see if your workplace conducts a charitable giving campaign.
For contributions made through the CFC, the NRL Educational Trust Fund can be located under the federation called HSCA (Human Service Charities of America). NRL's agency number is 2844.
Contributions made through the state and private sectors are found under the umbrella group called "Neighbor to Nation."
The CFC giving period spans approximately two months in the fall, at which time CFC chairpersons distribute brochures (a great number of which are on military bases and in post offices around the country) which list hundreds of charities for employees to select from. Federal employee designations are then automatically deducted from their paychecks throughout the fiscal year, which makes giving easy and pain free.
For example, an employee might pledge $120 with $5 or $10 deducted from each paycheck. Simple, easy, inexpensive.
As a participant in the CFC, the National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund is most grateful for the contributions. They enhance right to life educational projects throughout the country.
NRL shares its workplace campaign proceeds with its state affiliate groups who then educate their communities using those funds. For example, Pat Glenn of the Pro-Life League of Nevada wrote last March, "Thank you for the check from the Combined Federal Campaign funds. We will use it for educational literature and activities in both northern and southern Nevada."
RTL Education Foundation of Kentucky Executive Director Margie Montgomery wanted to express "deep appreciation for the check [they] received from the Combined Federal Campaign fund." Montgomery added that the Educational Foundation utilized the funds on speakers for schools, pro-life booths at state fairs, television campaigns, an annual oratory contest, and other educational literature and materials.
In previous years Karen Cross of West Virginians for Life Educational Trust Fund expressed her "Thanks... for your work with the Combined Federal Campaign! [CFC] funds received by the West Virginians for Life Educational Trust Fund have enabled us to purchase pro-life videos and materials for use in schools and churches." Mrs. Cross added, "Teens are especially interested in the 10-week unborn feet pins we provided for the health classes. During these difficult economic times, the additional money has been a tremendous blessing to our educational efforts."
The educational opportunities created by the generosity of employees directly help the plight of the unborn, elderly, and handicapped. Thank you!
