HSCA Agency #2844
The Basics of the CFC and How it Enhances Pro-Life Education
By Marie Hagan
Probably everyone would say yes to the question, "Would you like an easy, convenient, affordable way to contribute to your favorite charity?" Well, such a mechanism exists for pro-lifers to help the National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund. But you have to hurry because the window of opportunity is about to close.
The Educational Trust Fund has participated in what is known as the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) since 1982. All of the money generated through the CFC is used strictly for educational purposes that help protect the lives of the unborn, elderly, and the disabled. The Trust Fund is listed in the CFC brochures under the workplace campaign federation called Human Service Charities of America (HSCA), using agency #2844.
What is the "CFC"? It's an innovative workplace campaign that was started by the Office of Personnel Management in 1982 so that federal employees could make contributions to their favorite charities. Currently, there are also about 340 military bases around the country where the CFC takes place.
What makes the CFC particularly helpful is that it's such a convenient way to give; designations are automatically deducted from people's paychecks.
If you or someone you know is a federal employee, please help support these important lifesaving educational programs by pledging the National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund this fall in your campaign brochure under HSCA, agency #2844.
The CFC activity occurs in the fall of each year, at which time each of those 340 CFCs establishes its own "kick-off" and closing dates. While some will begin the first of September and run through October, others begin their campaigns in October and run through the end of November. Each employee receives a brochure and can select up to five charities to which to contribute.
Affiliates of National Right to Life use their share of the money that's been designated for the NRL Educational Trust Fund in a number of ways. The funds have become an invaluable resource that enables local groups to buy educational literature, videos, and fetal models. Some groups purchase educational advertising spots on radio and television or in newspapers so that they can further educate their communities.
REMINDER:
If you are a state employee, many states now also have employee campaigns in which the NRL Educational Trust Fund participates. Moreover, the Trust Fund is taking part in this year IBM's workplace campaign--agency #OL508.
