Workplace Employees Enhance Lifesaving Educational Projects

By Marie Hagan

For many years the NRL Educational Trust Fund has participated in the CFC (Combined Federal Campaign) as well as state, local, and a few private-sector campaigns, making important pro-life educational programs around the nation possible.

The CFC takes place around the country primarily on military bases and is operated by the Office of Personnel Management. Nearly half the states also run employee campaigns (see below), and are coordinated in the governor's or the Secretary of State's office. Private-sector campaigns like the one at IBM (agency #OL5O8) have included the NRL Educational Trust Fund in their workplace campaign drives this year.

Because of the generous contributions from these workplace campaigns to the National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund each fall, NRL is delighted to be able to share the proceeds with its state affiliate groups so they can further educate their communities. And educate they do!

Brian Johnston, executive director of the California ProLife Council, said his organization is "actively educating California citizens through county and regional fair booths, literature distribution, and local speakers' bureaus. California ProLife has also recently sponsored a media outreach project which includes video presentations for church and community groups and through cable access channels, as well as purchasing air time for high-quality 60-second television spots."

Right to Life of Michigan's Amanda Peterman offers that "just one way we use CFC funds [is through] our Media Campaign program [which] strives to offer assistance to women and men in crisis pregnancy and post-abortive situations, continually improve the image of our organization and spread a positive prolife message in the most efficient, cost effective way possible."

Karen Cross of West Virginians for Life Educational Trust Fund expressed her "thanks... for your work with the Combined Federal Campaign! [CFC] funds received by the West Virginians for Life Educational Trust Fund have enabled us to purchase pro-life videos and materials for use in schools and churches."

Mrs. Cross added, "Teens are especially interested in the 10 week unborn feet pins we provided for the health classes. During these difficult economic times, the additional money has been a tremendous blessing to our educational efforts."

Federal, state, local, and even some private sector employees have an opportunity right now--this fall--to help keep these wonderful pro-life activities flourishing. Your donations directly educate the public on crucial life issues including abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia.

The fact that the number of abortions has seriously declined in recent years is testimony to the truth that minds are being reached and hearts softened.

Federal employees can find the NRL Educational Trust Fund listed in their campaign brochures under the federation HSCA (Human Service Charities of America), agency #2844. Currently the NRL Trust Fund is listed in the following state employee campaigns: California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Massachusetts, Maine, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin. And IBM's 2002 campaign employees would assign agency #OL508.
