Urgent Congressional Alert:

U.S. Senate to Vote on Human Embryo Cloning Ban at Any Time!

WASHINGTON (June 10, 2002) - - The U.S. Senate is on the verge of voting on one of the most important pro-life issues that it has ever addressed: Whether to ban the cloning of human embryos.

For a detailed report on recent developments, see "U.S. Senate Braces for Historic Votes on Human Cloning," page 1.

Also, visit the NRLC website frequently for updates on this crucial congressional battle. NRLC has just added a sophisticated Legislative Action Center to its website. This part of the website will give you the latest information on pro- life issues in Congress, and contains easy-to-use tools to help you to identify your elected representatives and send them just the right message at the right time. (See the box headed " Legislative Action Center" on page 1.)

Please urge ALL U.S. senators to support the human cloning ban sponsored by Senators Sam Brownback and Mary Landrieu (pronounced "Landrew"). The Brownback-Landrieu bill (currently numbered S. 1899) is the ONLY pending bill that would really ban human cloning.

Also urge the senators to oppose "clone and kill" legislation that would permit the cloning of human embryos but prohibit their survival (such as bills proposed by Senators Specter and Feinstein, S. 2439, and Senators Dorgan and Johnson, S. 2076). These bills would permit the establishment of human "embryo farms," and make the FBI and other federal agencies responsible for enforcing the destruction of countless human embryos.

Please urge your fellow citizens to communicate with the senators, too. Any pro-life citizen can visit the NRLC website, type in a home zip code, learn who represents him or her in Congress, and send them e-mails on the spot (or obtain information for regular mail, faxes, or phone calls).

Also, please utilize newsletters, church bulletins, call-in radio shows, and other means to alert pro-life citizens to this crucial fight. Also, write letters or op-ed essays for local newspapers, highlighting the critical votes that senators will soon cast.

If you obtain information on any senator's position (including information reported in the press), please forward it to NRLC by e-mail to Legfederal@aol.com (preferred), or by fax to (202) 347- 3668, or by regular mail to NRLC, Federal Legislation, 512-10th Street Northwest, Washington, D.C. 20004-1401. Thank you!
