National Pro-Life Religious Council
Demonstrates New Growth
By Ernest L. Ohlhoff
Formed in 1985 as a loosely knit organization of pro-life leaders representing a variety of different Christian denominations, the National Pro-Life Religious Council's (NPRC) original goal was to dispel the misconceptions promulgated by the Religious Coalition for Abortion Rights (RCAR).
NPRC's purpose was to bear public witness to the truth by demonstrating there were many Christians in all denominations who did not agree with or support the policies and statements issued by RCAR.
In 1991 NPRC was incorporated as an educational organization and began to plan a series of activities. Since its incorporation, NPRC has sponsored one major conference of theologians from a variety of denominations and has published a regular newsletter and two books.
"We believe we have an important mission in the pro-life movement," said Rev. Rob Schenck, NPRC president. "We are here to tell the world that while some of our national church governing bodies still profess to support the infamous Roe v. Wade decision, more and more individual pastors and local churches are hoisting the pro-life banner."
Rev. Schenck added, "I believe that the atrocities of unrestricted abortion on demand and the horror of partial-birth abortions have brought many pastors and laity back into the pro-life fold."
NPRC has helped the pro-life cause by demonstrating a united front of leaders from many different denominations. "The finer points of our theology may differ but the historical Christian teaching on the sanctity of human life is the same," Schenck stated emphatically. "On the issue of pro-life we stand united and we are second to none in our resolve to work together as a team to educate our churches, our communities, and our nation about the beauty and sanctity of human life."
NPRC is planning a major fundraising project in the next few months and plans to publish a new report exposing the falsehoods and misinformation promulgated by the newly renamed Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice.
NPRC is also seeking new members to broaden its base of support in the overall Christian community. (See coupon below.)
