U.S. House Upholds Bush Policy Against Aid to Pro-Abort Groups
WASHINGTON (June 10) - - By a very thin margin, the U.S. House
of Representatives on May 16 blocked an attack on a vital pro-life
policy adopted by President George W. Bush.

Marzen The lives of virtually all the mentally incapacitated adults in California who have not made their wishes clear literally hang in the balance, awaiting the decision of the California Supreme Court in a case that will determine whether Robert Wendland will continue to live or whether he will die by dehydration. All briefs have now been filed and the seven justices heard oral arguments May 30 in a case which has been inaccurately described as involving a "right to die." A decision is expected in the late summer or early fall, meaning it could be reviewed by the U.S. Supreme Court as early as next year.

CHANGING
THE CULTURE OF DEATH --Wilbur Reese Reese's words remind us that we so much more prefer comfort and ecstasy to painful but liberating transformation. It is so tempting to settle just for "a pound of the Eternal in a paper sack." More than that sounds too overwhelming. Where is the moderation if we go for more than $3.00 worth of God? The next thing you know, we'll transcend our selfishness and do what's right. This could mean a change of heart, cultural upheaval. Very upsetting. Upsetting, indeed, to us and those around us. But isn't that the lot of pro-lifers? Like our fellow human beings, we are afflicted by spiritual laziness and the desire for comfort, but somehow we have bought more than "a pound of the Eternal in a paper sack." Our souls may not yet be "exploding" but they are restless. Our sleep is disturbed by the cry of the innocent. Complete
