NRLC 2001 and You!

By Dave Andrusko

I
f you've never attended a National Right to Life Convention, it would be difficult to exaggerate just how much you've missed. But the nicest thing about having an annual gathering of pro-lifers who come together from around the world is that the opportunity comes around every June.

NRLC 2001 comes your way a week or two after school has ended for most students, making it a perfect vacation opportunity. So come join some 1,200 pro-life champions who will gather at the Adams Mark Hotel in beautiful Charlotte, North Carolina, June 28- 30.

(For the early birds there is a special added attraction. Wednesday night, June 27, is the annual meeting of the Association for Interdisciplinary Research in Values and Social Change. This association of pro-life professionals will examine the relationship between abortion and eugenics.)
So, what will you (and hopefully your family) see and hear if you come to NRLC 2001?
Whew, where do I begin?

Many of our attendees do bring their children, so rest assured the convention offers both first-rate childcare for the younger ones and a dynamic youth program for teens and college-age students. Many veteran pro-lifers got their first taste of the Movement as a youngster attending an NRL Convention.

The roster of speakers is terrific. Just this week Pat Boone graciously agreed to join us.
At almost the same moment, Jeff Cavins cleared his schedule so he could come to Charlotte.
Jeff is currently producer and host of a live talk show, Life on the Rock designed for young adults that appears on Eternal Word Network (EWTN). He also substitutes for Mother Angelica on her live show when she is traveling.

Popular radio and television talk show host Sean Hannity will give us a frank and amusing look at the modern media and how its overwhelmingly pro-abortion tilt can be combated. Mr. Hannity's general session speech is scheduled for Saturday morning and will be one you won't want to miss.

Over the past few years author and activist Wesley Smith has ranked as among the most popular speakers. Mr. Smith is author of a powerful "must-read" new book, Culture of Death, which is reviewed in this edition on page 14. His Friday morning general session talk is titled "Bioethics and the Threat to the Sanctity of Human Life."

Mark Pickup is one of the most spirit-filled human beings you'll ever meet, an articulate disability rights activist, who will help you understand the assisted suicide movement in a whole new way. Mr. Pickup is the Prayer Breakfast speaker.

And talk about a full plate from which to choose! There are 72 workshops, four general sessions, a Prayer Breakfast, a closing Banquet, an entire separate track for young people, and exhibits that offer every kind of pro-life product and service to stock up your local chapter.

But a list of speakers and workshops which take place in delightful accommodations doesn't begin to give you the flavor of what you will carry back home with you when you leave.

Pro-lifers at times feel under siege. Few media outlets will give us a fair shake, which means that the public often has a complete misunderstanding of who a pro-lifer is and what she stands for.
That's why it's so important to come together, to share stories, exchange insights, and just relax in the presence of people who love not only unborn babies and their mothers but also the medically vulnerable elderly and the friends they have made in the Movement.

So, don't wait a minute longer. On page 26, you'll find an ad that explains everything about NRLC 2001. Read it and act immediately.

See you in Charlotte!
