PROUDLY PRO-LIFE AWARDS DINNER TO HONOR
FR. FRANKPAVONE, LAWRENCE GARVEY
By Richard Kimble
On April 25, 2001, the National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund will host the eighth annual Proudly Pro-Life Awards Dinner. Once again, we will gather in the grand ballroom of New York City's historic Waldorf-Astoria Hotel for an evening of celebration to honor two leaders in the right to life movement: Fr. Frank Pavone and Lawrence Garvey.
The Reverend Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, has been active in the pro-life movement for a quarter of a century. Ordained a priest by John Cardinal O'Connor in 1988, he served as a parish priest and taught theology at St. Joseph's Seminary and other institutions.
However, it is as national director of Priests for Life that Fr. Pavone is best known. Named to the post by Cardinal O'Connor in 1993, he has built a highly effective organization, personally traveling around the world to help build a Culture of Life.
His influential columns appear in many publications, including National Right to Life News.
Lawrence D. Garvey, founding partner of Radiofone, Incorporated, has also been very active in the pro-life movement, both locally and nationally, for the past two decades. Mr. Garvey and his brother, Donald, launched their cellular and paging communications company back in 1958, and he remained active in management until March 2000. Radiofone operates primarily in the southeast United States with the home office in New Orleans.
Mr. Garvey has been recognized locally for his business and charitable accomplishments, including several commendations by the Archdiocese of New Orleans and New Orleans Right to Life.We are delighted to announce that the Honorable William P. Clark has agreed to join us as honorary chairman for this year's dinner. After serving as chief of staff to Governor Ronald Reagan in California, he became judge of the Superior Court, justice of the California Court of Appeal, and finally justice of the California Supreme Court before being called to Washington to serve under President Reagan as deputy secretary of state, national security adviser, and secretary of the interior. As has become tradition, actor and writer Ben Stein will once again serve as general chairman and master of ceremonies. Mr. Stein is perhaps the most outspoken and unabashedly pro-life advocate in Hollywood today. We are truly blessed to have him as a member of our team.
The Proudly Pro-Life Awards Dinner has recognized many pro-life stalwarts since 1994. That illustrious list includes Mrs. Arthur DeMoss, John Cardinal O'Connor, Gov. Robert Casey, Senator Bob Smith, Congressmen Christopher Smith and Charles Canady, Judge Robert Bork, Mr. Virgil Dechant of the Knights of Columbus, Senator Jesse Helms, Mr. Wellington Mara of the New York Football Giants, Mr. Thomas S. Monaghan, and Bishop James T. McHugh. We have also paid special tribute to Pope John Paul II, Mother Teresa, and President Ronald Reagan.
If you would like additional information about the Proudly Pro-Life Awards Dinner, or are interested in supporting or attending the dinner, please don't hesitate to contact our development office at (202) 626-8813. We hope to see you in New York City at the Waldorf-Astoria on April 25 as we join together as proudly pro-life.
