Sen. Mitch McConnell: Champion of Freedom of Speech
NRLC and Others Fight McCain-Feingold Restrictions on Free Speech About Politicians
WASHINGTON
(March 8)The U.S. Senate will spend the second half of March in a
wide-open debate on the McCain-Feingold "campaign finance
reform" bill, which is strongly opposed by NRLC and many other
citizen groups.
Protecting Free Speech Against McCain/Feingold-Like Laws By James Bopp, Jr., NRLC
General Counsel
"The most natural privilege of man, next to the right of acting for himself, is that of combining his exertions with those of his fellow creatures, and of acting in common with them. The right of association therefore appears to me almost as inalienable in its nature as the right of personal liberty. No legislator can attack it without impairing the foundations of society." Alexis de Tocqueville, 2 Democracy in America 203 (Bradley, ed., 1954).

"McCAIN-FEINGOLD"--AN ATTACK ON YOUR RIGHTS The misguided "reformers" have struck again: Senators John McCain (R-Az.) and Russ Feingold (D-Wi.) have introduced the "Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2001" (S.27). The First Amendment says "Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." But McCain, Feingold & Co. won't take "no" for an answer; they have become obsessed with "reform."
