At your service
By Holly M. Miller, NRLC Field Coordinator
"Hear ye, hear ye! National Right to Life Committee has appointed Holly Miller as Field Coordinator to humbly serve the state and local affiliates of National Right to Life and to assist in establishing new chapters."
Well, the announcement wasn't exactly that formal, but it is a big deal because now you have a full-time staff member at National Right to Life at your beck and call.
If you have ever wondered "How can I get more involved?"; "What if there isn't a right to life chapter in my community?"; or "What now?" then call me. I would be glad to make suggestions.
But as a hint, let me say I will likely suggest that you start or join an existing chapter in your hometown or county. [I can send you our "Chapter Manual," a great handbook chock full of advice and suggestions for new and established chapters.]
If starting a chapter seems too ambitious (right now), I can certainly suggest other ways to make a difference and also put you in touch with your state right to life organization.
Are you a chapter coordinator or already involved with a local chapter? I am also here for you. You likely have experiences and ideas that would benefit other chapters, and they likely have information that would benefit you. I am committed to serving you both as a resource and as a liaison between chapters.
In fact, there are several projects I am initiating to serve you better, so I am going to need your help too. First, I would like to make our chapter database as complete as possible and use it to create an e-mail listserv as a more immediate and economical way of inter-chapter communication. NRLC has some of your addresses already, but just in case--and especially if you have e-mail--please clip and send in the form below or e-mail me the information.
Second, chapters will be featured regularly in National Right to Life News. Some articles will provide suggestions for activities or fundraising ideas, but mainly we hope to profile individual chapters and their work.
You do great work and others will draw ideas and inspiration from your commitment to the unborn. If you had a successful event or project, others want to hear about it.
This is no time to downplay your work. Each chapter has played a significant role in protecting and promoting life, whether you " only" organize a diaper drive for your local crisis pregnancy center, stuff your church's bulletin with pro-life information, or encourage pro-lifers to contact your congressman about a certain bill. From our standpoint, your grassroots efforts and presence give our lobbyists influence on Capitol Hill and are responsible for our pro-life successes in elections, despite being greatly outspent by the other side. They may have money, but we have the truth and the people on our side.
Finally, in assembling a chapter manual that is truly helpful to you, I want to make sure that the information is pertinent to your needs. Let me know what you want to read about in the manual or in NRL News chapter articles.
Please e-mail me ideas, questions, or comments at nrlchapters@hotmail.com or call me at (202) 626-8800, ext. 108.
Remember, I am here to assist you and make your life easier.
How can I help you?
