Re: Recent Web Page Improvements
NRLC's
Information Technology Department has been very busy since the November
elections. While we have accomplished much, there are still many tasks left to
complete. We would like to share a few of our recent accomplishments and list
some of our goals with you.
As will be explained below, we've recently completed a transition from one service that "hosted" our web page to another service. It was not easy.
However, thanks to the move, we can now look forward to revising and improving our web site [www.nrlc.org]. We hope to have improved navigation and a fresh new look shortly.
We will be adding new features such as the Proudly Pro-Life Awards Dinner and information about our annual NRLC Convention as well as a new fact sheet on the economic impact of abortion.
We also anticipate online registration for the major events this year. Hopefully these changes will make important dates and information readily available to you.
Of course the latest and greatest advantage that the Information Technology Department can now offer is our "Hot List." The Hot List amounts to an e-mail-based phone tree. We receive the information and can send it to hundreds of members instantly with the click of a button.
You can join the list by going to www.nrlc.org and clicking on the Hot List button located under our logo on the first page. You can also e-mail us at nrlc@nrlc.org and request to be placed on the list.
By joining this list you can help us make it easier and quicker to mobilize grassroots efforts. The Hot List provides a fast and easy mechanism by which you can receive the latest updates, notices of upcoming events, and timely information that will help you help the cause.
We also would like to encourage you to invite pro-life friends and family to join the Hot List so that they too can be kept up to date. Please be assured that your name will NOT be shared or sold to anyone and you will only receive National Right to Life- sponsored materials.
We know from our e-mail that there are many very computer- literate people who use the NRLC web page frequently. It will be helpful for you to understand the changes the Information Technology Department has made, and why.
First, as mentioned at the beginning, we recently switched our web hosting service. For those who may not know, a web hosting service is how you reserve your place on the web. The hosting service supports your "domain" name (in our case, www.nrlc.org) on the Internet. This switch involves moving the information from one host to the other.
However, this was far easier said than done. No two web hosting servers are alike, and as a result this transfer process took longer than expected. Modem "time outs" and computer crashes are inevitable in such a transfer. There were times when we were limited to an older laptop computer with limited hard drive space.
We are presently hosted by iland. Thus far we are more than satisfied with the new partnership. It was necessary to make this switch due to growth and cost factors.
We are experiencing some minor glitches which will be worked out. Please feel free to e-mail us with problems that you may encounter; we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
We would like to thank you for your support with this project and would also like to encourage you to help us spread the word. The Hot List has made it possible for us to promptly reach grassroots pro-lifers with news about events as they unfold. We believe this is the most efficient and powerful tool available to local pro-lifers.
Again, thank you for your support and understanding in these matters. We really appreciate it.
Sincerely,
The Information Technology Department
