PRO-ABORTIONISTS VOW ALL-OUT CAMPAIGN TO DEFEAT JOHN ASHCROFT

Refusing to buckle under to pro-abortion threats, President- elect George W. Bush has nominated pro-lifers to important cabinet positions, including attorney general and secretary of health and human services.

Working hand in glove with major newspapers, pro-abortionists are already speaking in apocalyptic terms.Within two weeks of the December 22 selection of pro-life Missouri Sen. John Ashcroft to be attorney general, they were already likening their offensive to the all-out war launched in 1987 that successfully derailed President Reagan's nomination of Robert Bork to the Supreme Court.

Pro-life Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson's selection to be secretary of health and human services has been pummeled by many of the same sources.

JANUARY 12, 2001 Beginning as soon as late January, the U.S. Senate will deal with two issues of key concern to the pro-life movement. The first of these is President-elect Bush's nomination of former Missouri Senator John Ashcroft as attorney general. The second is possible Senate consideration of the McCain- Feingold "campaign finance reform" legislation that could severely restrict the right of NRLC and other pro-life groups to communicate with the public about the actions of those who hold or seek federal office.
It is important for all senators to receive communications on both issues. However, in general, it is particularly important that Democratic senators receive large numbers of letters and calls in support of the Ashcroft nomination, and particularly important that Republican senators receive letters and calls in opposition to the McCain-Feingold bill.
All available means of activating grassroots networks should be utilized to galvanize citizen activity on these issues, including telephone trees, church bulletins, call-ins to appropriate radio talk shows, and letters to the editor of local newspapers.

BILL CLINTON IS LEAVING OFFICE AND THE PRO-LIFE MOVEMENT IS STRONGER THAN EVER

The time is up for Bill Clinton; and that is very good. He was the nation's first pro-abortion president--for eight very long years; and that was very bad. But the anti-life "legacy" that he and the pro-abortion lobby achieved could have been far worse.

With the inauguration of Bill Clinton on January 20, 1993, the pro-abortionists' most extravagant dreams seemed to have been realized. They couldn't ask for much more: The pro-abortion leadership of the Democratic Party controlled both houses of Congress, and in the White House sat a president publicly committed to a woman's "right to choose." And he meant it. Unlike so many other "principles" that Bill Clinton would conveniently forget later on, making and keeping abortion on demand legal in any shape or form was very important to him. In his second term, he proved his fierce support for abortion rights when he single- handedly prevented the ban on partial-birth abortions from becoming the law of the land--twice.
