Have You Received an Extra Phone Call from NRLC?

This year, as never before, we are asking loyal pro-lifers to help us change the world.

It's no exaggeration to say that, for many babies, their entire world depends on the information provided by National Right to Life.

Whether millions of children even have a world depends on our ability to further change society's attitudes on abortion, pass more pro-life legislation, and get the pro-life message to the millions of Americans who aren't hearing it in their local media.

Without these victories, babies will continue to die for years into the future.

The National Right to Life Committee is uniquely positioned to reach Americans with the message of life and to help pass legislation that literally saves lives. The great need now is to educate Americans on the true meaning of the recent Supreme Court's Stenberg v. Carhart decision allowing partial-birth abortion.

Justice Antonin Scalia, in his dissent in the partial-birth abortion case, suggested the decision would be "greeted by a firestorm of criticism." But people need to get factual information before their hearts will be changed, and of course, we know the media generally downplays news that represents the pro-life position.

Americans also need to understand that the actual underpinning for the Stenberg v. Carhart decision was the original Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion in 1973. Hopefully, when they realize this, there will be a "firestorm of criticism" against Roe v. Wade as well.

But telling our message to the world costs money - - for communications, ads, conventions, NRL News - - all the things that are so critical to informing Americans of the truth about how extreme abortion has become in this country.

To make this happen, National Right to Life is phoning our members an extra time this year to ask for help in educating the American public about the issues.

In an ordinary year, National Right to Life would phone members once in the winter and once in the summer to ask for help for our lifesaving programs. But as you know, this is no ordinary year. So much hinges on how we respond now that we have added one more phone call and for some, a personalized mailing to ask you to please help at this critical time. We wouldn't make the extra request if it wasn't absolutely necessary.

In addition to our special need to educate Americans about partial-birth abortion and other issues, we have to continue to solicit for all of our other lifesaving programs. So if it seems we're asking you to help more often this year, we are. But we would be derelict in our duty to unborn children if we didn't do everything possible to take advantage of this moment in history, which could decide the fate of unborn children for years to come.

This year, when you are phoned on behalf of National Right to Life or if you receive a request in the mail, please respond with as generous a gift as you can. Perhaps you can afford to sacrifice and increase your contribution level from what it has been in the past.

I would caution you to make sure the call is coming from National Right to Life or one of our state affiliates. Other organizations, some with extremely high fundraising costs, are currently calling and drawing away critically needed funds from the programs that can make a significant difference.

I know sometimes the burden seems to fall heavily on those of us who are already doing much for life. But I must turn to our membership at this critical time for the needed support to change our nation's attitudes and laws on abortion.

Tragedies like partial-birth abortion won't be eliminated without our hard work and sacrifice. I thank God we can call on loyal pro-lifers when the need is greatest.
