Here Are Five Easy Ways You Can Attend the 2000 NRLC Convention in Washington, D.C.

Remember: the knowledge you will gain and friends you will make will help you lead your local pro-life chapter or church pro- life group during these next critical months.

What Are Those Five Easy Ways?

Idea #1 Call a special meeting of your chapter and make your case for the need to have a chapter representative attend the right to life educational event of the year. Begin immediately to develop a plan to raise the necessary funds. (Projects may include: bake sales, garage sales, solicitation of local churches, donations from major donors, etc.)

Idea #2 If you are a church pro-life leader ask your pastor for help. Offer to hold a coffee and donut sale after your Sunday services or ask your pastor to let you collect donations as people leave the church. You might also consider approaching church men's or women's clubs or organizations, such as prayer group, Bible study group, mission society, Knights of Columbus, etc.

Idea #3 If the cost of coming to Washington, D.C., is very high from your area, consider having one person attend who would represent several local chapters and/or churches.

Idea #4 If any members of your group have business trips to the Washington, D.C., area in late June or early July, ask them if their companies will allow them to take a few vacation days before or after their trips so they can attend the convention.

Idea #5 Bite the bullet and do it the hard way - - all by yourself. Consider the following:

* Rearrange your vacation plans and visit Washington, D.C. You get to attend the convention and the kids will learn a lot about their country's history.

* Turn a mason jar into a piggy bank and drop in your spare change. You will be amazed how much you can collect in a few months.

* Find a friend or relative in the Washington, D.C. area to stay with to cut costs.

* Use the Internet to find the cheapest airfare - - you'll be surprised how low fares are if you buy early. Or, contact Conventions In America and 1-800-929-4242 and ask for group #691 to receive special airline and car rental discounts.

* Obtain sponsors. Contact people who advertise in your church's bulletin or any pro-life business in your community. Try to find eight or ten who will commit to pledging an equal share of the cost.

* Encourage your spouse, children, relatives, and friends to get together on a present for your birthday (or an early Christmas present). Tell them that what you really want is a trip to NRL Convention 2000 in Washington, D.C. Be sure to make your plans early to get the best air fares and hotel rates!
