ONCE A YEAR OPPORTUNITY RAPIDLY
APPROACHING
By Marie Hagan
As fall approaches, pro-lifers are presented with a unique opportunity to combine their support for the unborn and the medically dependent elderly with involvement in charitable enterprises.
For many years, employees across America have the chance to contribute to their favorite charity during the months of September and October. This is true whether they work for the government (state or federal) or in the private sector.
For over 13 years the National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund has served as a mechanism through which pro-life citizens in and out of government have funded a wide-ranging array of educational projects such as purchasing and utilizing educational bro-chures, books and videos, helping get speakers into schools, and producing television, radio, and newspaper educational advertisements.
Many of you are familiar with the massive Combined Federal Cam- paign (CFC). Not as many may know that state and local governments also conduct campaigns in the fall whereby employees can contribute to a designated charity. There are also a growing number of private sector campaigns as well.
Each campaign sets its own "kick-off" and "closing" dates, during which time employees receive brochures that list a wide range of charities from which to select. Therefore it is imperative that right to lifers be on the lookout over the next eight weeks.
Last year the generosity of workplace employees who gave to the CFC, 18 state/local employee campaigns, and 19 private sector campaigns totaled $350,000 for the National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund. Those proceeds were shared with NRL state affiliate groups, enabling a broad range of educational endeavors to be realized.
We've received many thank you notes praising the Trust Fund.
For example, Ohio Right to Life Society President Jane F. Grimm, wrote, "Thank you for your recent, generous gift. You and I, and all of our Pro Life friends across Ohio share the same common belief in promoting and defending the right to life of all innocent human beings. Thank you friends of life for caring enough to do something about it."
RTL Education Fund of Colorado Secretary-Treasurer, Earl F. Dodge, wrote, "Thank you for the funds which we received recently from you. These will strengthen our educational efforts for Life."
Caring is exactly what all the employees who designated the NRL Educational Trust Fund in workplace giving last year exemplified.
So, where and how can you give to the National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund?
Federal employees can give through the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). State and local government employees may currently designate in the following state campaigns:
Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin.
Private sector employees can look for the NRL Educational Trust Fund in their workplace campaign brochures or write in the name.
For all employees, look for National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund, agency #0447, listed under the federation America's Charities.
To all employees who share with us, we thank you in advance for your vital part in helping to protect the unborn, elderly, and disabled.
