Parental Notification Laws Passed In Texas and Florida

June 10 - Just three days ago, pro-life Texas Gov. George W. Bush signed into law parental notification legislation that is virtually identical to a parental notification law that pro-life Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is scheduled to sign into law as NRL News goes to press.
Both laws overcame enormous obstacles, beginning with a barrage of pro-abortion parliamentary trickery and the brevity of the legislative session in both states.

Promote Pain Relief Before Congress

On June 17, 1999, Senator Don Nickles (R-Ok.) and Representatives Henry Hyde (R-Il.) and Bart Stupak (D-Mi.) will introduce the Pain Relief Promotion Act of 1999.
Since their breakthrough legalization of assisting suicide in Oregon, pro-death forces have been moving on both the legislative and judicial fronts to expand on a state-by-state basis. A bill similar to Oregon's law has been reported to the floor of the California Assembly, where the legislative leadership has made its enactment a high priority. Meanwhile, a case is advancing through the Alaska state courts seeking to have physician- assisted suicide declared a state constitutional right.

Doing What's Right,

Some pro-lifers would have you believe that the struggle for public policies promoting the right to life is hopeless. They point to the Clinton presidency, the vetoes of pro-life legislation, the still prevalent pro-abortion bias in the media, etc. But they are wrong. You, the hard-working supporters of the National Right to Life Committee, know better. What we do is right, and it works. It works because

* we have advanced the pro-life agenda;
* we have hindered, frustrated, or stopped the pro-abortionists' agenda;
* our credibility and influence are higher than ever; and
* our strategy is based on a sound rationale.

We can approach the new millennium with confidence; we are on the right track. What we have been doing for over 25 years has substantially undermined the pro-abortionists' "culture of death" and will come to full fruition in the next century.
