Action Alert

Urge Congress to Protect
Living Human Embryos!

As explained in the articles by NRLC Legislative Director Douglas Johnson (page 1) and Richard M. Doerflinger (page 28), the Clinton-Gore Administration has set in motion a plan to provide federal funding for medical experiments that require the killing of human embryos in the laboratory.

A federal law, enacted with NRLC's support in 1995, prohibits federal funding of research in which living human embryos are harmed or killed. But the Clinton Administration is seeking to adopt a far-fetched reinterpretation of the law to render it ineffective. The purpose of this reinterpretation is to allow funding of research on so-called "stem cells" or "master cells" after they are removed from the living embryos.

ACTION REQUEST: Write to your two U.S. Senators and to your representative in the House of Representatives. Your letter should be in your own words, but carry this essential message:

"I urge you to stop the efforts of the Clinton-Gore Administration to use taxpayer dollars to fund research that requires the killing of human embryos. The government should protect these living members of the human family, not fund their destruction. I support funding of alternative avenues for research into 'stem cells' or 'master cells' that do not require the killing of human embryos."
