Workplace Giving Campaigns Offer Terrific
Opportunity to Help Save Innocent Human Lives
By Marie Hagan
"With the help of the proceeds generated by contributions made to workplace giving campaigns, we are reaching the public's mind with educational materials that save innocent human lives and at the same time build a consensus for life in Wisconsin," says Barbara Lyons, executive director of Wisconsin Right to Life, Inc. "We are most fortunate to count you as a colleague in this lifesaving and noble educational program."
Mrs. Lyons is only one of many grassroots pro-lifers who have contacted the NRL Educational Trust Fund to thank it for helping to bring vitally important financial resources to state and local groups, money that comes from workplace charitable campaigns, including the Combined Federal Campaign, state employee, and private sector campaigns.
For over 15 years, the NRL Educational Trust Fund has actively sought to find ways local pro-life groups can benefit from the charitable giving that is a part of so many public and private enterprise organizations. Let's begin with what is available at the federal level.
In 1982, the Office of Personnel Management created a workplace campaign for federal employees called the Combined Federal Campaign. The National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund immediately began participating. Look for our agency number #0447.
In the mid-1980s, state governments began opening up workplace campaigns to their employees. Currently there are 27 states operating workplace campaigns, a marvelous opportunity for pro- lifers to dedicate their charitable contributions to the NRL Educational Trust Fund. (See list below.)
At one time among corporate workplace giving, there was only one option: the United Way. However, in the 1990s, federations such as America's Charities have begun to access private sector campaigns on behalf of their member charities.
As a member of America's Charities, the NRL Educational Trust Fund currently participates in 44 private sector workplace campaigns and several United Ways. (See list below.)
Charitable giving campaigns take place in a period of two months each fall with kick-off and closing dates varying.
Employees receive campaign brochures during the relevant months and select the charity to which they wish to contribute. Money that is designated to the National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund is in turn shared with NRLC's state affiliate groups who use the funds to educate their communities.
When your chance arises, please do two things: designate National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund, agency #0447 listed under the federation America's Charities, and tell your friends and family to do the same! With those resources the NRL Educational Trust Fund and pro-life groups across the nation can educate the public about the unparalleled dangers posed by abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia.
