U.S. House Will Take Up Bills To Restrict Free Speech About Politicians

WASHINGTON (March 10) - - A determined minority of Senators, all Republicans, led by Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), prevented Senate approval of the McCain-Feingold "campaign reform" bill in February - - a victory for NRLC and other groups that oppose government restrictions on free speech about politicians.

VICTORIES MOUNT

March 10 - - Building on breakthrough successes in 1996-97, so far the 1998 legislative session has been a tremendous year for NRLC affiliates and the cause of life. A total of 19 states have now enacted partial-birth abortion bans, although not all are in effect because of court action. In a number of other states pro-lifers are very close to passing bans on the grotesque partial-birth abortion technique.

I read about the death of Celestine Harrington the other day with the deepest compassion and a nagging sense of shame.
You've probably never heard of Celestine, the 42-year-old victim of abortion whose life of courage and giving was ended last month in a traffic accident that never should have happened.
Victim of abortion, you ask? Had Celestine had an abortion? Had her family been racked by abortion in some other way?
No, Celestine was a victim of abortion in the truest sense. Her body was violently assaulted in an attempted abortion when she was just a baby in the womb of her teenage mother.
