From the President of National Right to Life:

Thirty-one years ago on January 22, 1973, the pro-abortionists celebrated their complete and final victory - - or so they thought. The Supreme Court had settled the abortion question once and for all. It had struck down every protective abortion law in the country, and it looked inevitable that the lives of other vulnerable persons would be in imminent danger as well.

But then something began to happen. Out of that terrible tragedy, the right to life movement rose like a phoenix. National Right to Life, which Congressman Henry Hyde calls the "flagship" of that movement, was organized almost immediately and was officially launched in May 1973.

Now, 31 years later, National Right to Life is one of the most effective and respected organizations in the nation. In 1999 Fortune magazine ranked the most influential public policy groups in Washington, D.C., and National Right to Life was No. 8. NARAL, the leading pro-abortion group, ranked a distant 43rd.

In 2003 a political scientist surveyed Capitol Hill to determine which organizations were the most influential on health care policy. His results were published in The Hill newspaper and revealed that National Right to Life was the eighth most influential group, right behind the National Governors Association.

In the years since 1973, our work has saved many, many human lives, kept alive the ideal of respect for life, and given us real hope that someday we will restore full protection for life.

We want to ask you to join us in building a world where the lives of precious unborn children and disabled, and elderly persons are not at risk merely because they are unborn, disabled or old.  A gift from you will ensure the programs that save so many lives can continue throughout 2004.

Programs that directly save lives depend on generous people who are willing to give the resourses needed to continue the fight for life.  Our Congressional lobbying and grassroots development are prime examples of these programs.  We also need continue our work in the state legislatures and in the media.  We have youth and college outreach programs that reach more and more young people every day.  These programs save lives, and we would never want them to have to be cut back because of financial need.
