Planned Parenthood’s Trafficking of Baby Body Parts is ‘Reprehensible’

WASHINGTON – A third video released by The Center for Medical Progress (CMP) again shows high-ranking associates of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) casually discussing the harvesting and trafficking of body parts from unborn children killed by abortion. Calling the discussions “reprehensible,” the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the federation of state right-to-life organizations, renewed its call for protective pro-life laws.

One segment of the new video contains footage apparently taken at the “pathology laboratory” of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains (PPRM) in Denver, and depicts the separation of various body parts from the remains of an “11.6 week” aborted unborn child. The undercover investigator posing as a tissue vendor suggests that this cadaver would yield four different, separated specimens, and that a per-part payment of $50 to $75 would be appropriate, or $200-$300 for all four parts. In response, a woman identified by CMP as Dr. Savita Ginde, the clinic medical director, responds, “I think the per-item thing works a little better [than a per-fetus payment], just because we can see how much we can get out of it.”

“To hear these senior Planned Parenthood doctors and executives coldly pricing baby body parts – liver, heart, lungs, kidneys, brains, and limbs – with such casual disregard for the unborn children killed to obtain those parts is reprehensible,” said Carol Tobias, National Right to Life president. The ease with which they talk about the unborn child being used for their own gains is disturbing, and should cause even the most hardened abortion activist to face the grisly reality of abortion. It’s time to put a stop to this brutality and enact laws that will protect unborn children.”

The three videos that have thus far been released by CMP highlight the need for protective legislation such as the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act and the Unborn Child Protection from Dismemberment Abortion Act.  These bills would greatly expand protections for unborn children from late abortions, and would curb some of the grisly practices described by the senior Planned Parenthood doctors in the two videos released earlier by the CMP.  Twelve states have enacted the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.  In May, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a federal version of the bill, which is currently awaiting action in the U.S. Senate. Earlier this year, Kansas and Oklahoma became the first two states to ban dismemberment abortions.

“If you’re troubled by what has been revealed in these videos, you should be equally troubled that more than one million unborn babies are similarly and brutally killed by the abortion industry every year,” Tobias said. “It’s time to stand up and say ‘enough is enough’.”
Founded in 1968, the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the federation of 50 state right-to-life affiliates and more than 3,000 local chapters, is the nation’s oldest and largest grassroots pro-life organization. Recognized as the flagship of the pro-life movement, NRLC works through legislation and education to protect innocent human life from abortion, infanticide, assisted suicide and euthanasia.
