Guidelines on New Name

The following are directives on NARAL Pro-Choice America's new name:
NARAL has officially changed its name to NARAL Pro-Choice America.
NARAL Pro-Choice America is now the legal name of the organization formerly
known as the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League.
NARAL is no longer the acronym for the National Abortion and
Reproductive Rights Action League.
BACKGROUND: The name change recognizes that reproductive freedom is gravely
imperiled, and that the best -- the only -- hope for protecting it is
mobilizing an educated and motivated pro-choice majority. In conjunction
with our new name, NARAL Pro-Choice America is also launching the largest
grassroots mobilization initiative in our history. To that end, effective
immediately, in all publications, in the media, in internal and external
communications, advertising, direct mail and other marketing materials,
NARAL will now be referred to as NARAL Pro-Choice America.

The following guidelines should be adhered to when the name appears in
print:
DO:
-- Use all-caps when writing NARAL as part of NARAL
Pro-Choice America
-- Always refer to NARAL Pro-Choice America when referring to the
organization, and not any combination of the four name elements
-- Always hyphenate and capitalize Pro-Choice
-- Always use a non-bold, non-italic font
PLEASE DO NOT:
-- Do not use lowercase letters when spelling NARAL Pro-Choice America
-- Do not use periods to separate the letters of the name NARAL
-- Do not use bold or italics in any part of the name
-- Do not separate the four name elements to refer to the organization in
shorthand format
