Ms. Marciniak was brutally beaten just a few days before her son, Zachariah, would have been born. Her attacker was not punished for Zachariah’s death. Even today, if this crime occurred in a federal jurisdiction, the killing of the baby would not be legally recognized.

It is time our law protected BOTH the mother and child in these circumstances.
