The Pro-Life Week in
Review
Part One of Two
By Dave Andrusko
Editor's note. I just
returned from the printer's where I put the final touches on the
October issue of National Right to Life News, the "pro-life
newspaper of record." There is the usual emphasis on education
and tools for grassroots organizing, but also a lot of attention
is paid to the upcoming November 2 elections. If you are
not a subscriber, you ought to be. If you call us we can quickly
place your name on our mailing list of 360,000+ and send you the
October issue as well. Please dial us up at 202-626-8828, or go
to
http://www.nrlc.org/news/subscribe.html, download the form,
and send in a check. Hurry! And be sure to read
Part Two. Burke
Balch's story, titled "Are Obamacare 'Death Panels' Truly a
Myth?"
Even more than usual, we
spent a lot of time this week debunking pro-abortion sophistries
and spelling out breakthroughs that further the cause of life.
The pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute (spun off from Planned
Parenthood) cranked out a study in its in-house journal
purporting to prove that adolescents who have abortions have no
increased risk of depression or low self-esteem.

"A skimpy, superficial assessment" |
There is a reason this
"skimpy, superficial assessment" was not published in
peer-reviewed journal. It's shoddy, agenda-promoting nonsense
would have drawn only derisive laughter. (See
www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Sept10/nv092910.html.)
On the other side of the
academic fence, stem cell researchers at Children's Hospital and
the Harvard Stem Cell Institute yesterday published an important
study online explaining what the Associated Press accurately
described as "a method of creating stem cells without using
embryos." For those of you who've followed NRL News and TN&V
over the last few years the name "induced pluripotent stem cells
(iPS cells)" will be immediately familiar. You can read about
the important improvements made in this alternative to embryonic
stem cell research at
www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Sept10/nv093010.html.
It pains us to report
these stories, but it is important to know that at least
occasionally authorities go after abortionists who kill women
and/or maim them.
In addition this week represents the 10th anniversary of the
U.S. approval of the abortifacient RU486. Its use is growing and
PPFA is looking for ways to use this two-drug chemical abortion
technique to reach women in rural areas without actually having
an abortionist onsite. You can read about so-called "tele-med
abortions" at
www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Sept10/nv092910.html.
And there were stories
galore about the upcoming November 2 off-year elections. For
example, we wrote about the growing impact of early voting (www.nrlc.org/NewsToday/EarlyVotingJump.html),
the importance of young people turning their pro-life
convictions into action (www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Sept10/nv093010part2.html),
and how if pro-abortion President Barack Obama follows the
advice of socialist Congressman Bernie Saunders he can only hurt
himself and Democrats running this fall (www.nrlc.org/NewsToday/HidingPlainView.html).
And this and more these
past five days. Anything you missed is right there online for
you to read. I hope you take the time to catch up.
