"The Pledge to America
Reflects Our Commitment to Life"
Part One of Three
By Dave Andrusko
Good evening, and
thanks for reading Today's News & Views.
Part Two in NRLC's
statement in response to "The Pledge to America."
Part Three
reminds us that plenty of people warned the Democratic
leadership that ObamaCare was a gigantic mistake. Over at
National Right to Life News Today (www.nationalrighttolifenews.org),
Wesley Smith clues us in on the efforts to re-define what is an
"embryo." We're also encouraged by the second defeat of the
bogus "DISCLOSE Act." And if that weren't enough, there is more
about the latest legal troubles for late-term abortionist Steven
Chase Brigham. Please send your comments on Today's News & Views

"The
wide-ranging agenda -- which includes roughly 30 proposals
divided into five categories -- also reveals the significant
rejuvenation among House Republicans under the leadership of
Minority Leader John Boehner, who played an active role in
preparing the final details and working with Rep. Kevin McCarthy
(R-Calif.), who chairs the America Speaking Out initiative."
-- From a story in this morning's POLITICO, discussing
"A Pledge to America."
"We welcome the Republican
leadership's commitment to repeal and replace the Obama health
care law, which is a top priority for the pro-life movement
because that law, when fully implemented, would result in the
rationing of lifesaving medical treatments, and an array of
federal subsidies for abortion as well. In addition, a permanent
government-wide prohibition on federal funding of abortion is
long overdue, and we applaud the inclusion of that legislation
in this action plan."
-- NRLC Legislative Director Douglas Johnson, in NRLC's
official response to the House Republican leadership's "A Pledge
to America."

If you like you can read
"A Pledge to America" in its entirety at
http://www.gop.gov/resources/library/documents/solutions/a-pledge-to-america.pdf.
The authors' eloquence in parts is stunning, most particularly
in its opening paragraphs.
As a single-issue
pro-lifer you will be elated by that portion of the document
that addresses the life issues. The House Republican leadership
is pledging that if the GOP is the majority party in the House
next year, it will attempt to remedy one recently-created huge
problem and tackle another chronic problem.
The former, of course, is
ObamaCare. This must be stopped before the majority of its core
proponents are implemented. As noted above, it will result in
the rationing of lifesaving medical treatments, and an array of
federal subsidies for abortion as well.
NRLC's expression of
gratitude is Part Two today. There is a link there [http://www.nrlc.org/press_releases_new/Release072910.html]
where you will find an example of the aforementioned federal
subsidies. You will be continually told ObamaCare does nothing
of the sort. It does, and the page to which you are directly
explains how.
Kathryn Jean Lopez is an
editor-at-large of National Review Online. She interviewed House
Republican Leader John Boehner about this permanent
government-wide prohibition on federal funding of abortion,
which she refers to as an expansion of Hyde.
"Lopez: Why is the Hyde
expansion you have in the agenda important? Isn't it going to
drive some members and interest groups mad?
"Rep. Boehner: The
American people are overwhelmingly opposed to having their tax
dollars used to pay for abortions. Frankly, I don't think this
is even controversial. It's the will of the people. Back in June
I had the honor of addressing the National Right to Life
convention in Pittsburgh, and I made clear that codifying the
Hyde amendment was going to be a priority for us. And it will
be. The Pledge to America reflects our commitment to life."
Be sure to read Part Two
("National Right to Life commends House Republican 'Pledge to
America' to repeal Obama health law and permanently bar federal
funds for abortion"). As we look forward to repealing and
replacing ObamaCare and to permanently turning off the federal
funding spigot, this promise is encouraging news indeed.
