Back to Back to Back to Back….
Before tackling today's subject, a
quick reminder where we have been recently. Or, more specifically, the
many roads down which pro-abortion Democrats have skulked in their
attempt to prove that no matter how bad we say they are, they are
actually worse.
Yesterday we discussed how Obama
surrogate, pro-abortion Missouri Senator Claire McCaskell, told ABC's
George Stephanopoulos that the public is "going to find out that this is
a ticket [McCain/Palin] that wants to put women in prison for having an
abortion after they have been raped."
A few days ago, Carol Fowler, the
chairwoman of the South Carolina Democratic Party, told the
Politico's Alex Burns that Gov. Palin's "primary qualification seems
to be that she hasn't had an abortion."
And, of course, there have been
gazillion even uglier smears against Gov. Palin.
Writing on the Atlantic magazine
blog, Marc Ambinder informed us "In memos, e-mails and phone calls this
week, Obama campaign officials have urged surrogates and allies to
mention Republicans who are 'nervous' about the Palin pick and to link
those worries to George McGovern's aborted vice presidential pick of
Thomas Eagleton in 1972, according to three Democratic surrogates. That
year, McGovern rescinded the pick after learning that Eagleton had been
treated for depression. Questions about the thoroughness of the Palin
vet have been raised, particularly about how and when Palin disclosed
the news that her teenage daughter is pregnant and whether Palin's
political resume had been thoroughly scrubbed."
Pro-abortion Democratic vice
presidential nominee Joe Biden got his two cents worth in as well. After
declaring that discussion of families (particularly children) was "off
limits," he used the example of children with "a developmental
disability, who were born with a birth defect" as a political prop to
criticize Republicans. Worse yet, feigning innocence, he insisted he was
not talking about Gov. Palin, whose four-month-old baby, Trig, was born
with Down syndrom
[Near the bottom of the barrel
were the comments of Fox News' Alan Colmes. Colmes used his Web site "Liberaland"
to raise the question: "Did Palin Take Proper Pre-Natal Care?" Since
pulled, the column suggested that by taking a flight close to her
delivery date, Sarah somehow contributed to, if not caused, Trig's Down
syndrome.]
But that, of course, is simply
Hysteria 101. It tells us how "extreme" McCain and Palin are on
abortion. But Biden, never short on words, also makes (as it were) the
affirmative case for the Democratic ticket. In other words it's not just
that the Republicans are terrible on "choice," the Democrats are
awesome.
Lest it gets forgotten, in a South
Carolina debate last year among the Democratic presidential candidates,
Biden bragged about defeating the eminent constitutional scholar Judge
Robert Bork, nominated by President Reagan for a seat on the Supreme
Court in 1987. Unless you are old enough to have actually watched the
onslaught against Bork, you can't possibly grasp how vicious was the
smear campaign.
Specifically, Biden said in that
April 26, 2007, debate, "I strongly support Roe v. Wade. … I would make
sure that the people I sent to be nominated for the Supreme Court shared
my values; and understood that there is a right to privacy in the United
States Constitution. That's why I led the fight to defeat Bork. Thank
God he is not in the court or Roe v. Wade would be gone by now."
As we get closer and closer to
November 4, the attacks on the pro-life team of McCain and Palin will
grow in ferocity and inaccuracy. That's bad enough. Even worse is that
at the same time we will be assured that pro-abortion senators Barack
Obama and Joe Biden are the very epitome of moderation on abortion.
We need to dispel the lies about
McCain and Palin and make sure that the truth about Obama and Biden is
made known to the American people.
