What Can We Say Five Days From Mid-Term Elections?
Part Two of Three

By Dave Andrusko

Five days, and counting. Are you helping your pro-life candidates? I hope so. It would be a shame if any lost by a handful of votes. And, yes, that HAS happened.

(See the end of this article for how you can assist.)

The news is so encouraging we know the obvious temptation: to let up on the gas. Can't do that, not when the fate of ObamaCare--and so much more--is at stake. That monstrosity must be repealed and replaced!

Okay, what's the latest?

To start with a related story, the state Democratic Party in Minnesota sent out an ugly mailing that blended anti-Catholicism and stupidity (see Part One). It illustrates yet again that pro-abortion Democrats will do and say anything as the Day of Reckoning approaches, even remarks that are bound to hurt them if they become known.

The composition of the United States Senate, currently overwhelmingly stocked with pro-abortion Democrats, is about to change. Whether Republicans can net ten seats to take control is the question of the hour. There are a host of nail-bitters, including (but not limited to) Washington, Nevada, California, Colorado, Alaska, and Pennsylvania.

The Hill newspaper, which has done an extraordinary job of polling in competitive House districts, headlined a story yesterday, "Midterm blowout: 50 or more Dem seats set to fall in the election." Shane D'Aprile writes, "Of the 42 districts polled for The Hill, all but two of which are currently Democratic, 31 had Republicans in the lead. Democrats were up in just seven, and four were tied. In addition, there are some 15 Democratic districts that are so far into the GOP win column that they weren't polled. That would suggest at least 46 GOP pickups, plus whatever the party gets out of another 40 or 50 seats that some experts believe are in play." And that does even count "about 15 districts that are already too far gone for Democrats."

Appearing on the radio program of the Reverend Al Sharpton, President Obama said, "My name may not be on the ballot, but our agenda for moving forward is on the ballot and I need everybody to turn out." Good point to remember. Another good point to recall is that the Harris Poll released this week shows that "Currently, two-thirds of Americans (67%) have a negative opinion of the job President Obama is doing while just over one-third (33%) have a positive opinion."

According to a recent POLITICO/George Washington University Battleground Poll, "In the final pre-election Battleground Poll, Republicans hold a 14-point edge among independents and lead overall, 47 percent to 42 percent, in the generic ballot match up."

Finally, "Key constituencies and regions that helped Democrats come into power continue turning against them," according to POLITICO's James Hohmann and Jim VandeHei. "Whites favor the Republicans 56-33. Suburban voters tilt Republican 51-39, up from 44 percent in early September. Republicans lead 50-41 in the Northeast and 48-42 in the Midwest. Republicans now have a 15-point edge among non-college educated men." And the famous "enthusiasm gap" is not only alive and well, it appears to be widening in favor of Republicans.

I hope you've helped those pro-lifers who might need assistance to vote early (where states allow). You can find this out at http://www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Sept10/nv091710part2.html.
