No Chance We'll Fall for
That One
Part Four of Four
By Dave Andrusko
Let's put a couple of
items together, one from yesterday and one from today, and see
what they might tell us. I think you will agree the conclusions
are both thought-provoking and motivating.
We've documented
pro-abortion President Barack Obama's plummeting approval
ratings many times. But just how far he's fallen may have
escaped you, as it did me.
Let me quote the first
two-and-a half-paragraphs of "Obama Approval Index
Month-by-Month," which ran Sunday at Rasmussen Reports.
"When tracking President
Obama's job approval on a daily basis, people sometimes get so
caught up in the day-to-day fluctuations that they miss the
bigger picture. To look at the longer-term trends, Rasmussen
Reports compiles the numbers on a full-month basis, and the
results can be seen in the graphics below.
"The number of voters who
Strongly Disapprove of the president's performance inched up a
point to a new high of 44% in September. At the same time, the
number who Strongly Approve held steady at 27%.
Those figures generate a
full month Presidential Approval Index rating of -17, down a
point from last month.
"Over the past four
months, the Presidential Approval Index has been at -16 or -17
every month. Those are the lowest levels yet recorded for the
current president."
Appearing in the
Washington Post this morning is an story entitled,
"Republicans to target new
health-care law after November elections," written by staff
writer N.C. Aizenman. The lead paragraph reads as follows:
"Repeal and Replace."
That's what Republicans are saying about the new health-care law
as they look toward the Nov. 2 midterm elections. If they win
the House, and possibly the Senate, they say, among their top
priorities will be to undo President Obama's signature
legislative achievement.
The thrust of the piece is
that even if Republicans capture one, even two houses of
Congress next month, they will have a formidable challenge ahead
of them in undoing all of ObamaCare's mischief. What should we
say to that thesis, which we will see a lot of in the next four
weeks?
First, nobody said repeal
and replace would be easy. That's why pro-lifers, led by
National Right to Life, poured tremendous amounts of time,
energy, and resources into trying to keep ObamaCare from passing
in the first place! That we lost a major battle is regrettable.
That we would ever stop seeking to regain lost ground is
unthinkable.
Second, many of the worse
provisions of ObamaCare do not begin to kick in for another year
or more. And there is, as the Post story explains, a lot of
preliminary work that we can attempt to stop in its tracks.
Third, not only are we a
patient, determined lot, after decades of practice we instantly
recognize when pro-abortionists in and out of the media are
trying to discourage us. Isn't going to work.
